Manish Malhotra, India's leading celebrity fashion designer and style icon yesterday (Monday, July 10, 2006), opened his flagship store in Dubai called "Manish Malhotra", in the presence of a host of celebrity guests and eminent Bollywood stars including Urmila Matondkar, Kareena Kapoor and Tushar Kapoor, and renowned tarot card reader and astrologer Sunita Menon. Located opposite the Mercato mall in Jumeirah, "Manish Malhotra" is the first flagship store for the designer, and offers avant-garde garments and accessories for the Arab world.
More than half of the clothes at the store will be Mumbai-made traditional wear, while the rest will consist of new designs catering to Arab and Western customers. Manish Malhotra has teamed up with Saif Belhasa Group of Companies, who will be the franchisers for the store, not only in Dubai but also in the rest of the GCC countries where similar stores are scheduled to open.
Speaking at the opening, Manish Malhotra said, "Dubai was an obvious choice for me when I was planning on opening my first flagship store. Very few cities in the world have so much to offer in terms of cultural diversity, affluence, infrastructure and the overall drive for excellence and growth. Moreover, Dubai is a prefect blend of traditional values and modernity, which in more ways than one reflect the essence of my designs."
"The store will cater to a diverse audience, particularly the fashion-conscious Arab community who can choose from a range of specially designed shelas, abhayas and jalabiyas. My latest diffusion collection that is modern, minimalist and grand will also appeal to Dubai's cosmopolitan environment. With regard to price, I certainly believe my line is reasonably priced, as it is a new look for the city," he added.

Manish Malhotra has been successfully retailing across the Indian cities of Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, and Hyderabad. His store in Dubai will promote an entirely new line of garments and fashion accessories with fresh patterns and designs that are designed for a diverse target group. In partnership with Saif Belhasa Group of Companies, Manish is keen on making his label a global brand, building on its outstanding fashion lineage. His latest collection meant for Dubai, received rave reviews recently when it was showcased at the star-studded IIFA Foundation Fashion Extravaganza in Dubai, ahead of the seventh Annual IIFA Weekend and Awards that were held in the city.
Commenting on the latest fashion trends, Manish said, "Lace, the colour white and flares, especially for women with a feminine look are definitely the high this season. I will be launching around three or four collections every year, including the spring summer, autumn winter and holiday collection."
"I plan to make frequent visits to the store in Dubai which will also allow me to offer personalised consultancy if the need arises. Dubai's proximity to Mumbai gives me that added flexibility and convenience," he added.
Manish's keen sense of style is also evident in his exquisitely designed store, which has a lot of amethyst, blue walls and wood, which the designer says will be common in all his stores that he plans to set up in the coming months.
