It's mainly been the Punjabi and South Indian flavours which has been dominating the Hindi film industry from time immemorial. Starting from the Raj Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna, Dev Anand era to the present-generation Kapoors and the likes of Akshay Kumar and PeeCee, Punjabi actors have always held the majority sway in Bolly. Some of the most popular numbers of the recent times have been composed entirely of Punjabi words(e.g. Pani da Rang, BBB songs). A lot of the commercial fare too centers around Punjabi households and culture. And the other region that seems to be shooting into prominence in Bolly recently is the South. A.R. Rahman and other popular mainstream actresses(Hema Malini, Rekha, Sridevi, Ash, Vidya, Deeps are all southies) aside, more and more Masala movies seem to be rip-offs/remakes of Southern action movies. Tabu, Asin, Madhavan, Kamal Hassan are some of the most well-known South faces in Bolly, who juggle both their industries with ease. And, all of this is NOT FORGETTING the Punjabi and Southern singers and directors who have crafted the glorious past that the Hindi film industry basks in. inSo, my question at the end of this lengthy observation is, what is it that makes the Punjabi and Southern elements in general so attractive to Bollywood?
