Saif is on sale for Rs. 75,000. Salman and Shahrukh are also among hot favourites. No, we are not talking about film industry- rather these are the names of goats on sale for Eid-ul-azha (Bakra Eid). "I have observed that from last few years glamour quotient has been added to goat market. Owners have started naming their goats on names of film stars to add glamour and attract the buyers," said Nadeem Khan (65), who has been buying goats for sacrifice for last four decades. Amjad Mian, who has been a witness to this market for the same time, agrees with Nadeem.

This year a goat named 'Saif' has been tagged at Rs. 70,000 at Budhwara goat market.
Another goat in competition is 'Tiger' alias 'Salman'
. Goat owner, Abrar Mohammad says 'Tiger' weighs more than 70 kg. "I reared this goat for almost a year like my own child. I used to feed him with two litres of milk with two eggs everyday. He is very fond of 'jalebis' also. I fed him dry fruits more than often. A buyer has offered Rs. 80,000 but I haven't made up my mind yet," said Abrar.

Rafi Shabbir, of the Old City says there are many people who have passion for rearing goats, especially in Kabadkhana, Jehangirabad and Budhwara areas. They rear goats especially for Eid-ul-azha and bring them up like family members. "Children of the owners give names to these goats with affection, which I assume has now become a fad. It seems naming them after film stars bring them publicity and crowd as well," comments Rafi.

"Every year about 32,000 goats are sacrificed in Bhopal on the occasion of Eid-ul-azha," said Aslam, who deals in hides of goats.

Goat markets have started drawing crowds, as only five days are left for festival of sacrifice. Main markets for goats are held at Gandhinagar, near slaughterhouse at Jehangirabad, Budhwara and Badabagh near Bhopal talkies. People from Berasia, Raisen, Vidisha and other adjoining areas come to fetch better prices in Bhopal. Goats are also brought from Agra and Rajasthan.
