Anyways I think the hurry to send the movie to Oscars took everyone by surprise. The decision obviously benefitted the film on one hand but also resulted in the backlash after that.

Notebook is a Hollywood movie.I am sure most of the critics(the likes of Taran Adarsh,Anupama Chopra,Rajeev Masand) do watch English films as they review them as well. I am surprised none of them came up with the similarity during their reviews for Barfi.

EDIT:Oops, the critics did find out similarities.Sorry for the wrong information.😳

Yes,the announcement of the film going to the Oscars definitely benefited the film and lobbying can't be ruled out at all.Nobody can be trusted these days in Media. However I still feel people are making a mountain out of a molehill with the national shame, etc.I really don't expect Barfi to even get selected for the foreign language category but its kind of disappointing that there were better films without any plagiarism charges which could have been sent instead of the film.

glad I gave 'Barfi' a miss. Why watch a mishmash of plagiarised scenes when i could just watch the original movies?

Im not sure if this movie will win Anurag an oscar, but it has more chances of fetching him a slew of copyright infrigement charges, than of winning, or even making it into the round of shortlisted films. 😆 What kind of douchebag completely plagiarises scenes from another movie and then tries to pass them off as his own? I know I'd be fuming if someone stole my work and tried to take all the credit for it and harped on about how unique and original it was. We arent just talking about one or two scenes here, so it is hardly coincidental.

The least he could have done is credited the original makers/writers of the scenes. OR atleast tweaked the scenes a little at the very little least.

eta: and what kind of idiot sends a heavily plagiarised film to the oscars?! 😆

I watched the movie in the first week itself, which I rarely do, coz I didn't want any preconceived notions abt the movie, but the movie was a disappointment for me. Of course it ended up getting a lot of critical acclaim and commercially to it has done well. But yeah I think sending Barfi for oscars, simply opened a can of worms and even if Hindi movies for whatever commercial considerations, are to be sent to the oscars, then at least this year one had some really good movies that could have been sent. Anyways Oscars aren't all that gr8 either and we should simply drop the hoopla over Barfi and Oscars!

If that's so, then he got a little too "inspired." I know he's saying he paid homage to old age cinema, but at least credit each copied scene somehow. Or is that too much? 🤔

Kikujiro, Benny and Joon,... old age cinemas! 🤔

Go read Rajeev Masand's review again. He was the first one who pointed the similarities with The Notebook & some other movies.

Someone should take a copy of the film and edit out all the identified copied/"homage" scenes and also the Amelie-style music and see what remains. 😛
