I didnt watch the movie yet...but from what I saw, I think we need to appreciate where it's due :) Both Ranbir and PC's acting was just wonderful. And, even the background setting, screenplay, and how the whole movie is set in the past and all 'seems' to be really nice. When I first saw the trailor, it really looked like the film-makers put in a lot of effort in directing it and producing a good film with some real quality... and that's pretty rare in Indian cinema! Atleast it's trying...
It may be manipulative, but it's still a good product, with good quality. The film-makers seem to be growing.
Hopefully, I dont wrong myself after watching the movie :)

I'm baffled. I'm rendered speechless by the amount of offensive nonsense that has been written into this article.

@bold: So the main argument here seems that a character CANNOT be complex, that he/she CANNOT change or GROW with time and that they CANNOT possibly contradict themselves. Because, of course, we as human beings, NEVER do anything complex or contradicting, still like what we did when we were two years old and have never grown out of anything or changed personality preference. Well then.

P.S. And also that we cannot find happiness in small things - that a small smile or a simple hug will NOT spread happiness. Good to know! *nods*

Autistic individuals are not senile! They are not "retards". And they are definitely not mentally-incapable of thoughts or feelings. They can UNDERSTAND, they can FEEL and they can THINK. Some are smarter than "normal" human beings with heightened intelligence. What they can't do is PROCESS all their emotions in the SAME way as the rest of us so called "normal" individuals - their crime is that their inadequacies are vivid enough to be visible to people (like the esteemed author here) while the rest of us can go on feigning perfection in silence. And that makes people think that THAT is in someway a sign of autistic individuals LACKING intelligence. SUCH a pathetic argument this was! So bloody inappropriate and offensive!

@blue:
Lol.. Glaring? Okay then.. 🤣

LOL Fivr, we live in cynical, cynical times, my friend...but this person has even trounced cynicism and turned towards sheer STUPIDITY more than anything else😆...GLARING flaws you see...GLARING😆

Of COURSE we can't find happiness in the small things in life...don't you know unless it's SUPERFICIAL and PLASTIC, it doesn't count as being REAL? Ooops paradox, is it?...

lol yeah you guys, every thing has to be PLASTIC and IN-YOU-FACE these days to be considered "real" because apparently the viewers are incapable of understanding subtlety. I guess she wants to literally see a card of spades to call it a spade. 😳

Utter GARBAGE of an article. The writer's main intention is to bring down the film clearly. If Barfi was manipulative, then what exactly is a Rowdy Rathore?

The film shuffles between Darjeeling and Kolkatta.

I have a feeling even then she'll question WHY it's a spade...how DARE it be a spade...are spades black? Are they shaped like that? Are the other cards in the deck "retarded" that they would stay with the spades? GLARING flaws, dude...GLARING😛

@red: I won't even begin to talk about just how absolutely OFFENSIVE this crap is. A couple of suggestions for the author though.. 1. Look up the definition of "autistic" and see if "retarded" makes the cut for synonyms. 2. Look up the definition of "normal" and see if it's synonymous with "douche". 3. Learn to be more responsible and show more respect to your position as a journalist.

Disgusting.

Totally agree.

Ah the irony of the situation where the author points out the flaws in the movie but her own article is flawed at so many offensive levels.
