Is hindi needed to work in bollywood? Should it be needed to work in bollywood.. We have Katrina, Sunny some more actresses 2/3 actors from south who are not good with hindi.. should talent be subjected to languages? would be not accept if Jackie Chan starts working in hindi movies and they always dub his voice? what about Angelina Jolie starts working in bollywood like Katrina.. What if they always dub their voices and they never learn hindi and always speak in english in their interviews? would we still pick on them like we do to Katrina?

Personally I think who ever works in bollywood should know the main language which is bollywood.. then I also think that talent needs no languages just because someone can't speak the language we can't deprive him of /her of doing good work...so I'm confused 😆

Rajnikanth has Crazy/massive fan following in Japan.. he doesn't even go there, he doesn't give interviews for them.. He is just an Indian actor for them whose movies they love and watch.. should they set a tab on Rajni to go learn Japanese and then only they'll watch his movies?

Should there be a rule book as to what are the basic know how of getting into bollywood as in knowing Hindi?

Isnt dialouge delivery an important part of acting? One of the reasons why Big B is considered a legend is because of dialouges. Just imagine if anyone of the popular actors lost their voice? Would it be the same to see them onscreen? National Awards has a rule that if an actor's dialouges are dubbed he/she isnt eligible to be considered for the award. So yes knowing the language of the industry you are working in is important. Its nothing wrong if someone doesnt know the language initially. But they should make every effort to learn it within some time.

@rolzz - but most of those actresses make an effort to learn Tamil, Telugu etc ...as for Kat, she isn't the only non-Hindi speaker to work in btown.. For many south Indian actresses like Sri Devi, hema malini, Hindi was as alien as it must be for Kat but they made an effort to become fluent .. Kat's Hindi is still pretty weak ...That blonde in RDB had a better grasp of Hindi than Kat :p

@topic .. If they incorporate storylines - however flimsy - to explain the accent (like in MBKD) thn I suppose it's fine .. But her accent in rajneeti for instance was a huge turn off .. And bad acting made things worse :p .. Ultimately she is working in Hindi film industry so she shd certainly make an effort or otherwise limit herself to roles that suit the accent (onus is also on the producers here) we give example of hollywod all the time .. As much as it is a global industry, I don't imagine them trying to depict Antonio bendaras as a born and bred amreekan lol .. Or can u imagine what Sherlock Holmes would have been like if Robert Downey jr hadn't made the effort to get the English accent pitch perfect?

Edit - oh rolzz .. Ur dp always make my day lol .. I love misha collins :D

2 - as much as I love my iPod, I absolutely loath it right now ... can't wait to get my computer back :x

I think it's necessary to be able to act in the language required. This doesn't necessarily mean that one has a strong grasp of the language otherwise. But if you know enough and work hard enough to be able to act in the language, that's good enough. (Of course this means soon enough one would eventually become somewhat fluent in language as well.)

I think this should be the case for the regional industries as well. Not just Bollywood.

They all need to get away from dubbing. Mahesh Babu was once happy and hoped In Sync sound would be standard, to which Rana protested and said it's not possible (I think because of the language issues that many actors have, not sure). And that just reiterates in my opinion that dubbing is a crutch. Go away from that and force the actors to learn to act in the language. (I think this also has the added advantage of pleasing linguists who despair about people's lack of command over the languages. Sure it's not going to change overall, but now you have those in the artistic business take a bit more effort and essentially needing to have some command over the language.)

But no one wants to do this. Everyone wants the easy way out, and the pretty face or even the talent. They want to be able to cast from a greater pool, and not be limited.

So since this is not going to happen in the regional industries, I don't know why I should clamor for it to happen in Bollywood.

Yes absolutely...Hindi is a prerequisite for working in Bollywood because bollywood is a Hindi language industry...people like Katrina have to have their dialogues dubbed in Hindi...the day Katrina doesn't have to speak a single dialogue in Hindi and can deliver hers in English...will be the day I will say ..that Hindi is not necessary...
Its the same for every industry...Can a north indian...say that she is going to speak her dialogues in Hindi in a Tamil movie...NOOO...either she learns Tamil or her dialogues are dubbed for her...any case Tamil is required...same for Bollywood..

well im not bothered to write everything again...but
if indian actresses have to speak english in hollywood why is it that these non-indians can get away with being dubbed in bollywood. Why is the bollwood industry so cheap, in that looks and dancing can make you an A lister...and as for katrina, all her movies are hits either cause she works with strong actors or good production houses...she hasn't even made a movie with her as the only lead unlike people like vidya-dirty picture and priyanka-fashion..
i find it awkward when she speaks and i am dread only to watch srk nect.. because of her...
in bollywood, its seems to me..those who can't speak hindi, generally can't act, thus they will never be classified as talented in terms of acting,..

The top south actresses like Jyotika, Simran, Genelia, Tamanna etc always used dubbed voice (unless they started doing it recently). You close ur eyes see a randon tamil movie clip, you wouldnt be able to identify the actress 😆
As for BW own voice dubbing was always a mandate, i dont understand why!! If a dubbed voice can make Kat's acting even a tiny bit bearable I would welcome it!!
And my DP..I absolutely adore Misha Collins..he is just...AAARGGGHHH 😳 Cant wait for new season 😃
