jus watched satyamev jayaye's episode abt child abuse. it was moving n disturbing as well. but growing up in india, i knew ths problm is not so uncommon. heard sm horror stories frm my cousinn's cousins friend's friends. it's jus tht nobody talkd abt it. and as kids v didnt know how to communicate it.
ths episode is much better thn th first one. aamir khan also has got better as a host. but th problem itslf is so huge tht it wud've been better if it was tackld in 2 episodes. hats off to th SJ team for bringing up such closeted subject on an open forum. hats off to th survivors for sharin their story. i was angry at th indian legal system and th middle class mentality of india which doesn't address ths problem properly.

It's even more disturbing because a lot of their stories are based on real-life incidents. I wonder if someone will ever be able to make a desi show like that.

Even though SVU is fictional, some episodes have been based on true life events. They have shown episodes based on the Christian incest cults that were busted, infamous kidnappings etc. One horrifying episode was about the international child trafficking ring. It was sickening how parts of Eastern Europe have streets specially for child sex - with curtains on windows representing gender and age.

Gosh! India could do with a show like Special Victims Unit. As a show it is very enlightening, educating and empowering. If it has helped women and children in a progressive country like USA, imagine what a difference it can make for people in India. I highly admire Mariska Hargitay for the genuine work she has done for victims of abuse after so many started writing to her after watching the show.

A while back we had a discussion on DM, almost every of us girls had a moment growing up in India where we were inappropriately touched, stalked or something similar. Despite coming from educated backgrounds, we all had inner guilt and embarrassment to talk about it or seek help until years later. It is a rabid problem in India and something has to be done to help the victims. The case is worst for boys, especially in cultures of machismo. It is ok for a girl to break down and cry and seek help. But for a boy to accept that he has been sexually abused, it threatens his masculinity, his role as man in the society.

I did not watch the show!!I wont watch it!!i cant stomach it esp. if its about children..I watched page3 ,that film stayed with me for a long time.

Regarding a law ,even if it was there i dont think it will be useful..USA has laws still abuse happens and a fraction come to police notice!!

In india there are laws against rape ..But how many rape victims actually go to police?? And even if they did how many do get justice?? May be 0.000001 percent..

Here we are talking about kids..who might not even know that they are getting abused!!!The only thing is parents especially mother should keep an eagle eye on her kids and their surroundings..even her own husband!!
Kids should be instructed to scratch or to shout NO when /if someone tries to touch them..But again its such a sensitive subject and a kid cannot even think about wrongs and rights of such things!!

Such serious topics should be addressed by a child physiologist especially more than a film star..atleast they should come and give advice as to how to make kids aware of their rights ,how they should be explained or dealt with these things!!

No Satyamev Jayate is not 'too hard-hitting'. It's the other side of reality, end of. Yesterday's episode was better than the first, IMO, because Aamir did a better job of hosting, and it's not a subject people in general are comfortable talking about. Paedophilia is far more common in India than we believe, and not many are even inclined to talk about it.

Harish Iyer's story was what moved me the most. Especially the bit where he said his dog was the only one who was tuned in to his pain. The worst thing about sexual abuse is the mental trauma that succeeds the physical act, and the fact that your own parents/loved ones fail to believe you and take action.

I also liked that Aamir showed the kids to differentiate between a 'good touch' and a 'bad touch'. That said, I would've liked if they had dealt with the issue of incest as well. What do you do when the abuser is the one who's supposed to protect you?

Nevertheless, this episode will be an eye-opener for many.

Yesterday's episode was really disturbing...
i was especially moved by harish's and tht girl's story...The lil workshop tht aamir conducted was pretty effective...g2 say...

More than anything...it just made me really angry tht such sick perverts exist... doing such horrible stuff to 11 year old kids is as disgusting as it can get...I hope they all suffer infinity times wht the kids have suffered.

But too hard hitting is fine...we have enough candy floss on tv..something like this wouldnt hurt...

I watched the whole episode this time...won't say much...the content was hard enough to digest as it is and talks about our own ignorance (esp. the desi community)...things like that would happen, we wouldn't even know or just brush it away as the child's "imagination" I think its also got to do with the underlying fear of admitting that such a thing could be true and be done by someone you trust ...and when its a close relative, then the whole "khaandan ko khush rakhna" and "dushmani na lena" etc. comes in with us desi ppl!

It is such a sad situation...and its not like the episode is intentionally made to hit us hard since towards the end they tend to provide us with positive solutions etc. and basically give out the message of hope for improvement and change. But, ofcourse, the content of each episode is shocking and hard hitting itself...those are like "taboo" issues...nobody wants to talk about it...when you already have so many tensions to deal with each day, who would wanna face the fact that such things exist in our society (at a large margin) and give more trouble to their minds...this kind of content requires extra emotional courage to even hear those stories.

Btw, the only factor that threw me off today was the appearance of Shri Devi...did anyone find that odd? She was so robotic and just very unattentive to the show...the whole flow was a lil disturbed...

You know that's the exact thoughts going through my mind that time...but I guess that's another issue itself, still way too taboo to bring up front. 😕
