Interesting. Boring was not one word I would have used to describe Kahaani but then everyone has a different opinion... there is nothing OTT about this movie..it is all pretty subtle and classy. I personally found it
very entertaining. It kept me engaged until the very end and I really wanted to find out about Arnab Bagchi. It was a taut thriller with little to no loopholes. All the scenes came togetehr really beautifully and logically. There was humor, beautiful cinematography (never has Kolkatta been shown SO beautifully, most movies will just end at showing Howrah Bridge), great imagery and symbolism..Great script it was..after a long time we had a movie where the CONTENT was most important. Plus it was so WONDERFULLY acted by teh ENTIRE star cast. Runnighotwater was HILARIOUS and oh so cute. I loved how realistically and beautifully they protrayed Vidya and Rana's relationship..it was so sensitive and classy. Khan was great as an antagonist of sorts and someone who just wanted to get to the bottom of the case and didn't care for collateral damage. Bob Biswas is famous ji..he successfully creeped everyone out with a very veyr innocent and sweet smile.
I think there can be multiple reasons for why you didn't like this movie..one is too high expectations of course..par I think in some ways you have to be Indian or know a lot about Indian culture, our mythology, to really appreciate this movie, to get the finer nuances, and the brilliance of the writing...because Kahaani is a very culturally RICH movie----Kolkatta and its vibrant culture is essentially Vidya's hero in the film. The humor in the move is very desi..I don't mean desi in the raw desiness in style now, but rather in the cultural quirks. The typical way Bongs refer to B and V the same and how it frustrates Vidya, to how the hotem manager calls Vidya Your Majesty because Vidya's from London..There is a lot of symbolism as well--the climax is very symbolic to Durga Maa, there's a huge parallel between Vidya and Rana relationship's to Krishnaji and Arjun in the Mahabharat down to Rana's real name Satyoki..so to get all this and appreciate it, you just have to KNOW these things from before I think..
As for TDP, now that is a massively overrated film. Vidya, Naseeruddin Shah, and Emraan were good..but the movie as a whole is nothing great. The only scene thta really stood out for me in that film was Vidya's Filmfare award speech..that I liked a lot...Kahaani on the other hand is a much more superior product.
Edit..soryy I didn't really mean to write such a long essay 😆
