Uhh well she does well in certain roles like Devdas and Jodha-Akbar. The problem is that she isn't versatile...Action Replayy or Dhoom 2, anyone? Sigh..I used to be such an Ash fangirl, hah.

She can act if given the right director and canvas! I will admit that she couldn't do the commercial masala movies. But, she more than made up for it with her work in HDDCS, Taal, Devdas, Provoked, Chokher Bali, Raincoat, Guru, Jodhaa Akbar, Sarkar Raaj, Guzaarish, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Josh, Iruvar, etc. It is not like her work was ignored! Most of her performances were praised. I would say her career was pretty steady over the years! Now, she is happy with a baby and can dictate her comeback anytime she wants!

I feel she lacks charming screen presence. She cannot carry out scenes on her own where she is the center of attention. She needs support of a good costar and other aspects to bring out the best in her. And ofcourse she fails miserably in roles which require a young and carefree vibe.

The concept of being a natural is alien to her! Somehow i feel despite the fact of camera loving her she still hasnt become friends with it yet, There is a certain mode of her which gets on when ever camera is there, she becomes fake, adopts a fake accent, become all mechanical, starts crying a certain way, starts laughing a certain way, gives the same limited expressions, which does not change regardless of what ever role she plays. In short she is a mechanical actor, not a natural actor.
