She may have lived-in with Saif Ali Khan in Salaam Namaste, but actress Preity Zinta says she would never do it in real life because she believes in the institution of marriage.
Do you believe that a film like Salaam Namaste is in tune with the times?
It touches upon a theme that has not been discussed before in Hindi films. It's a new subject for any director to deal with. Since our society has come of age, I think the film dealt with what prevails in society.
Would you like to have a live-in relationship?
Look, this is totally an individual preference and matter of choice. It's not a question of good or bad, but something that may vary from person to person. I have never had a live-in relationship in the past and I never will because I believe in the institution of marriage.
How has the film industry responded to your new look in Salaam Namaste?
I have been getting a lot of positive reactions from people. Everyone wants to know if this is a new, improved me. I think I acquired this look for Salaam Namaste because the film deals with live-in relationships. I did appear a little old and out-of-shape in Veer Zaara and therefore my new look in Salaam Namaste has surprised many.
You are now touching 30. Do you ever feel that you are getting too old for films?
Ten years back it was quite common for people to think that your career as an actor is over once you cross 30. That isn't true anymore. Today, films revolve around characters and the hero-heroine concept is outdated. Nowadays acting is more important than anything else and by that yardstick I am still young in the film industry.
