Nice article so true, she is another Sridevi in making, she was amazing in The dirty picture, even though the movie story was okayish. It was because of Vidya's portrayal of Silk made that movie a hit.

I was also thinking the same thing while watching the movie, that none of the actresses has the daring to do that type of role.

To me all of these actors and actresses of today are over rated. Kajol and few other suck in the crying scenes, when ever I have watched them cry, instead of feeling sad I laugh.

Actually there is some truth here. There was another South Indian actress Vijayshanti who was capable of delivering BO hits on her own. Her movie Kartavya did well not only in the original Telugu but also all the languages it was dubbed in. She was hailed as a hero in Tollywood. BUT after that role her choices got restricted as she wasnt offered/couldnt do glam/frivilous roles opposite leading heroes. She did a few more women centric roles which did not click and finally retired from movies and joined politics. But Vidya is smart and has made the right moves most of the time...so maybe her career will take a different turn. And we need more actresses and not politicians. 😆

I remember her... She has acted in one or two Kannada movies too... She was a very strong performer...

I think even Tabu too... She ended up getting typecast in the off beat movies... That way Vidya is lucky and the industry too was quite open in accepting her and recognising her tho she did not fit into the mould of a typical bollywood heroine and of course she made some smart career choices too along the way...

^^^Plus I suppose times have changed too and viewer tastes too thanks to multiplexes and other avenues for a producer to make money from his film. He doesnt necessarily have to please the front benchers now.

havent u heard of the tamil movie mannan? vijayshanthi was made to look like a shrew who rajni changes :P the MCP that bollywood is clearly shows here.

i didnt know naseeruddin shah's role was a take on sivaji ganesan..that would be a bigtime scandal in the south..

True... Big budget or small budget... There is an audience for all of them... And its good that some of these awards too are recognising these small films and the filmmakers...
