Bollywood stars to perform in New York

A host of Bollywood stars will perform in two musical concerts in New York in April.

The series of shows, titled 'Heat', would be a Broadway-styled extravaganza with some top Bollywood stars and more than 50 dancers performing to Bollywood songs from films.

Akshay Kumar , Preity Zinta , Saif Ali Khan , Sushmita Sen and Celina Jaitley will be part of the show. Joining along would be singers from the Indian television show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.

As many as nine shows are learnt to have been planned across the US and Canada. The organizer of these North American shows would be Aron Govil Productions.

As learnt, a show each would be held on April 15 at Continental Airlines Arena in New Jersey and on April 22 at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in New York.

Aron Govil is quoted by a news agency as saying: "The 'Heat' production is loaded with star power, including superstar Akshay Kumar, who will take the lead and bring his special charisma to the audience…Preity Zinta and Sushmita Sen will add beauty and elegance, the rock and foundation of Bollywood films, while Celina Jaitley will add another facet with her sensual and thought provoking dance numbers, which are sure to keep the audience spellbound."

Bollywood has been making its presence felt more and more on the other side of the Atlantic since last few years. Hindi films are beginning to enjoy much better run at the US theatres and there are not just NRIs but also many Americans who are beginning to show interest in Hindi movies and film industry.
