Mithun Chakraborty has taken to television. Mithunda (as he is fondly called) is now anchoring a show titled Golden Voice on Zee Bangla, aired on Saturdays and Sundays from 7 to 8 pm.
Co-produced by Zee Bangla and Prime Music, the show, which first aired on January 28, is shot in a special set erected in Arora Studios, Kolkata.
Anchor-mentor
Speaking to hitList from Kolkata, Chakraborty said, "Indranil Sen of Prime Music had been talking to me about this show. He conceived it some time back, and wanted only me to be the host, so I decided to give it a shot.
The television industry has become real big and I wanted to get a feel of it. I am not only an anchor. I also motivate the contestants at every opportunity. I keep narrating instances of my struggle and subsequent success."
Mithun's television commitment does not require rigid dates. "He shot with us for a few days in mid-January, and will now shoot in mid-March. We have developed a sufficient bank of 22 episodes," says a channel official. Adds Mithun, "I shoot as and when I am in Kolkata. There is a flexibility of arranging the whole set-up in such a way that it doesn't eat into my film assignments."
Golden Voice is a 54-episode show. "I was so fascinated when I learnt that 36,000-odd applicants had enrolled and wanted to test their vocal chords. In the end, we boiled down to 36. These 36 will be reduced to 12, who will participate in the quarters," informed Chakraborty.
Six of the 12 will move to the semis, and three to the finals, which will be telecast live. Nine finalists will be chosen by the judges; one by a wild card; one by the audience; and one by Chakraborty.
So how is the TV experience so far? "I am really enjoying myself, but I must say that it is a very tough job. Television is not an easy medium to work in. In a short span of time, one has to do many things," says Mithunda.
