IndiaGlitz [Thursday, February 16, 2006]

Mughal-e-Azam has got a U certificate in Pakistan and will soon be released with 25 prints across the country. The version to be released is the color one. This film is a timeless classic love story between the Mughal prince Salim and Anarkali. This is the first film in 40 years to be cleared by the Pakistani Censor Board.

The film was passed on February 11. The film will be released by the leading distributors in Pakistan Mandviwala Entertainment.

The film was screened before President Musharraf in December 2004 by Akbar Asif, K. Asif's son. The film is cleared for a one time screening only. This is being viewed as the beginning of legitimizing the release of Indian films in Pakistan. The film will be released in April-May this year.

Indian films were banned in Pakistan since the 1965 war. Barring a few films like Sohni Mahiwal and Noor Jehan, no other film has been cleared by the CBFC, Pakistan. Akbar Khan's Taj Mahal may be the next to see the green signal in Pakistan.
