All these comments makes me want to read this book. Sounds like a wonderful book.

I just read the synopsis. This sounds a little bit like Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam.

its way bolder, funnier and more realistic in a way...

but ur right, the basic story of a couple trying to convince each other's parents and in-laws for the marriage does sound similar to Konchem ishtam konchem kashtam...

But therz a lot of fun cultural references, and if u liked Chetan Bhagat's 5 point someone, u'll love this.

aww...really mystic...

hes written 4 books so far...but only 2 of them (5 point someone and 2 states) are good...his books are mostly funny and realistic...

3 idiots was kinda like a sanitized version of five point someone...Although the main characters were the same, 5 Point Someone had Kareenas character having sex with madhavan's character (in the book she falls for madhavan's character not aamirs), the three guys were into booze and drugs i think, and in general, the book had dark humor (kinda like delhi belly)...

His books are mostly "perfect bollywood stories", just a lil more edgy and bold.

^ Yeah while searching for Two States on Amazon (I am thinking of buying it) I read the synopsis for 5 Point Someone and was kind of surprised that it was a little different than 3 Idiots, with the booze and drugs, and I think the guys weren't as smart in the book version than the movie version (I wonder why Chetan Bhagat made all that fuss then).

I read the synopsis for Two States and it seems like such a cute story. I love these simple, slice-of-life love stories, not the Kjo kinds.

true...5 point someone was abt 3 underachievers at IIT...so aamirs character (Rancho in the movie, Ryan in the book) actually is at the very bottom of the class...he never tops the grades like shown in the movies...

although ryan was an intelligent, creative and individualistic thinker like rancho was, the point the book was trying to make was tht such thinking is never encouraged in our education system and all exams and assignments are mainly set for those who mug up their notes...hence, ppl like ryan are not given the opportunity to shine. Rancho had it much easier in the movie...Ryan's "thinker" attitude dosent gets appreciated by his professors (save a few) in the book and he ranks at the very bottom of his class...its quite sad

and even physical structure wise the book and movie are different... Alok (sharman's character in the movie) and Hari (madhavan's character) were supposed to be fat portly guys whereas ryan (Rancho) was the best looking of em all with gr8 height, six packs n all...😛

Oh and in the book, the three of them do steal a paper (for the selfish purpose of doing well in an exam) and get caught and they are suspended from the college too...no baby delivery scene there...they get suspended for a semester, but they work hard in the laboratory then and earn credit points to graduate and get through their degree...
