Excerpts from the Interview: Your film has a trademark look of a Sanjay Gupta film. Do you believe sticking to a same style? Yes this is true that my film has a particular look and feel. And I want it to appear such because I don't want to change my territory. So the common Bollywood themes are a complete no-no for you? As of now, surely! I don't intend to make stereotype film like comedy and romance. I'm happier with my kind of films, preferably thrillers. I don't want to make any other films. I would stick to making films that I enjoy the best. It should satisfy me first in script and execution. Moreover average kinds of stuffs are not for me. The cinematography of your films are brilliant. Do you vest more importance on them while making the film? It is not that much importance is given to the cinematography. If you notice, all my films have good script too. Other than this I play heed to even the smallest of detailing while making films. One aspect is never left for other.
He has been a constant factor in all my films. Actually we share the relation like brothers and I treat him like an elder brother. Above that he is also an associated with my production company. There is a comforting aspect too as he understands my creativity. He understands the kind of cinema that I make. What do you have to say about the allegation that your films are copies of international films? I've already said that I make films for myself. They should satisfy me first. So I am least bit bothered about the reviews of others. I make my films taking into aspect the risk factors. People who understand cinema would surely like my films irrespective of anything. My films are not regular stuff and I've the guts to make something different every time. As my kind of cinema didn't find many producers, I decided to produce my own films. 'Zinda' is garnering good response. How are you feeling about the success of the film? I'm feeling like partying hearing about the response that the film is getting. The film is doing good business in Mumbai, Delhi, South, and overseas. I had the confidence in me that this film will work wonders and prove my credibility in filmmaking. I'm so happy now that my dream has come true. It definitely gives the message clear that people are ready to take something new. I also owe the share of success to Sanjay Dutt for standing by me. But some audiences also feel that the film is too gory and gruesome?
Are you happy with the work of Sanjay and John in the film? They've done for me much more than I had expected. They shared a very good rapport and so there were no hassles while the making of the film at all. They worked very hard, rehearsed up till late in the night. This is the reason that the film has come out so well. I'm happy that their hard work is getting paid. Give me a break! I would like to go on a long holiday before I decide for the next take. |
