| Senior citizens deserve compassion and love but it becomes difficult when they step over the line. Last week, Anees Bazmee was in Dubai hunting for locations for his next film, Welcome (starring Nana Patekar and Akshay Kumar), when his seven-year old son, Faizan, went through pain and trauma at the hands of a retired 54-year old army officer. What happened?
Anees Bazmee stays in Deep Tower, Shantivan, in Oshiwara and the agressor is a neighbour. He related the incident to hitList, "On January 13, I left for Dubai to scout for location for Welcome and learned about the incident the following day.
Faizan was playing with the other kids when suddenly Colonel Tej A Kohli came across, scolded him and then slapped him. His complaint was that Faizan had let out the air from his car's tyres. Even if that was the case how can you hit a seven-year old child for that?" My son was bruised
"My son started crying and went home. When my wife saw his face, he had a print of fingers on it. She was shocked at his violence directed towards a small boy.
She called a friend of mine, and together they went to the Oshiwara police station and filed a complaint. Initially, they were reluctant to file an FIR as he's a Colonel, but then my wife called some of my friends who came over and then finally they did so." Police complaint
"The Colonel was called in after the NC was filed, kept at the police station for the night and let off the next day. They let him off after he begged and cried to them. It was discovered during breath analysis that he was drunk!
I want to ask the police why he was let off? What if he gets drunk and violent again? Faizan is still traumatized over the incident. Physical scars fade with time but it's the scars left on the mind of a young child that never go away." What next?
"I will be going again to find out what happened and to take strong action against this man. How can a seven-year-old damage somebody's car? And even if he does, you scold him or complain about him to his parents. How can anyone hit him so violently? Unko tameez nahi hai." Had I been there
The angry papa says, "The Colonel is lucky I wasn't around when he hit my son. I love children and am on very friendly terms with all the kids in my building. Not just Faizan but if the Colonel had hit any kid in front of me I wouldn't have stood around quietly doing nothing. I would have taken action." |
