I will not be tagged as a po*n star: Vidya Balan

Ive seen some dumb comments on youtube and even in this forum some time back when 'the dirty picture' articles first began releasing, comments that just dubbed vidya an aunty doing po*n.

Vidya's is one of the best talents we have in our industry today, and one of the only popular female's who take on roles of substance that are bold. She's pretty, smart and inherently sexy regardless of what she wears or age, and i think thats why she can play silk smitha with dignity as an actress. Can't wait for the film.

vidya looks great in the trailer. only she could have pulled this roll off with class. i think shes gonna get a lot of acclaim for this one!

i dunt think she will get tagged as soft po*n actress..shes an actor, doing her job...silk smita actually did such movies and since the movie is based on her life, obviously, its part of vidya's character to "look" like that...

I don't think anyone expects a person playing Silk Smita to be covered from head to toes and behaving like a coy shrinking violet. Vidya is playing a role and I don't think anyone in the industry can play an in-your-face seductress with as much aplomb as Vidya can. She was just born to play this role.

However, I do have a niggling feeling of cynicism about the motive behind doing a biopic on Silk Smita. There were tons of actresses who faced the ravages of Bollywood industry. If Silk Smita's name had not been synonymous with raw sexuality and bold scenes would the makers have even thought of making a movie on the life of a starlet whose fame and cinematic relevance was not much higher than a Prema Narayan? Parveen Babi was far more rich, beautiful and famous than Silk Smita and her end was as dramatic and inexplicable as the most sensational crime thriller ever written. But, I guess dementia and schizophrenia are not as titillating as luscious cleavages and salivating males. So, in the end it is still exploitation of Silk Smita and her legacy to sell sex in the garb of serious cinema.
