What does the 'Filmfare' Awards mean to you, especially in this 50 th golden jubilee year?
"It means a hell of a lot. I've not been around for 50 years, but I've been around for 15 of those -- and these have been the most important awards for me for the recognition of the films I've done and as appreciation of my work. This year, especially, I see the whole process as recognition of my work for the year, and me having won all these 'Filmfare' Awards all these years means that I have been doing a helluva lot of work."
You have been nominated for three films this year. Any personal favourites?
"Once again I'll say that the 'Filmfare' Award is a recognition of the work I've done, though this is for the first time that all three movies I've done in a year have been nominated – with me for Best Actor. I've got two out of four earlier, but never for all. I've got a 100 per cent strike rate and I am quite thrilled about it!"
If you were the jury, which of these films would you award?
"I would give the 'Filmfare' Award to all three, because it is the culmination of my annual work. And all I will say is, I seem to have got better after my surgery."
Mr Bachchan said recently that he liked your work in 'Swades', probably because you played the character, and not Shah Rukh...
"It was a different kind of role. It was a serious film and I had to play the character. Normally I play the young, romantic hero and that's when people say I play myself. 'Main Hoon Na' was one end of the spectrum, with me doing 'Matrix'-style action and 'Spit In Your Face' kind of comedy. So people said it is Shah Rukh. In 'Veer Zaara', the old character was nice, but the younger one was typical Shah Rukh, out of 'DDLJ' with a few years added on. But for 'Swades', I couldn't have it any other way. So people thought, I have not gone on my usual commercial hero trip."
Would winning be even sweeter with the trophy being golden?
"Frankly, it is a 'Filmfare' Award and a very important one. I couldn't care if the lady was pink or orange or green, as long as she sits on my mantelpiece as an appreciation of my work!"
