ideas?
Amidst the original ones that make an appearance at intervals, off late its the remakes and sequels that is ruling the box office. While its not a bad thing to be remaking a movie, what would be a treat is to have a movie remade that is better than the original. Otherwise we could just watch the original movies with subtitles, no? Many of you might not agree with me on this, honestly, wouldn't it be better to watch "Sholay" than even attempt to watch "Aag" and be disgusted? Having said that, there are film makers who remake movies that has the basic story line of the original, yet is good different. An example of that would be Farhan Akhtar's version of Don.
And then there are the sequels and third parts of the same movie. Again, a sequel I think should be the maximum a film goes to because remember, three is a crowd in most cases unless it is THAT interesting. A "Dhoom 3" might not be a bad idea but a "Krrish 2"?I am not too sure.
Bollywood from time immemorial have sourced their stories from hollywood but maybe now they might be running out of ideas too. Which is why we saw the english remake of Salman - Sushmita - Katrina starrer, "Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya" in the form of Jennifer Aniston - Adam Sandler starrer, "Just Go With It". And this could be the reason why bollywood is now looking for stories from closer home, mainly south indian films. Though it was Priyadarshan who paved the way for this, bollywood film maker are now becoming more confident to remake south indian films.
While this is not an unhealthy trend, one might prefer watching movies that doesn't remind them of another movie that then leads to comparisons and unfair verdicts. For this, the bollywood brigade of film makers and script writers might need to put on their thinking caps and pen down some original stories.
