Heroine makers aren't amused with Kareena's 'Rs. 8 crore' rumour
By Bollywood Hungama News Network, August 11, 2011 - 11:08 IST

24 hours have passed by since 'news break' happened around how UTV and Madhur Bhandarkar had gone out of their way to accommodate Kareena Kapoor by agreeing to pay her as much as Rs. 8 crores for Heroine. And that after the lady had apparently demanded Rs. 10 crores. However despite an official statement coming out pronto from UTV where the corporate house rubbished these rumours, they are still wondering aloud about the origin of this information.

"This is more shocking than amusing actually", says a source attached to the film, "Aisa kahin hota hai kya? Rs. 8 crores? Come on, that's taking things a little too far. No heroine gets paid this heavily. Even when Aishwarya Rai was earlier on board, she had reduced her price and that too on an amicable note because she knew that the role was powerful enough. Why just her, even Arjun Rampal had agreed to do it at a reduced price. Seems like today, what seems to be conveniently forgotten is that this is a heroine oriented subject and such films have to made at a tight budget."

This pretty much makes sense, especially if one looks at the track record of Madhur Bhandarkar who has made maximum number of movies in recent times as far as female centric subjects are concerned.

"Leave aside the fact that his first major film Chandni Bar was made at a shoestring budget, even when he roped in Priyanka Chopra for Fashion or Bipasha Basu for Corporate, his budget never crossed limits. Why just the ladies, even with Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi, both of whom had cut down on their market price, he made Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji in a controlled budget and ensured promised profits for all. By no means would be looking at any of his films turn into a big budgeted affairs", says a close associate.

While that should settle one side of the problem, there is another challenge currently faced by the film. While Kareena is said to be allocating her dates in Jan/Feb next year, Madhur intends to begin now. On the other hand, UTV has made it's stand clear on the entire 'issue' and declared that neither has Kareena been finalised nor has there been discussion of such huge amount being offered to any leading lady.

As stated by UTV in their official statement, "We would like to clarify that no casting has been finalised for Heroine at all. We further wish to state that no financial terms have been agreed upon and definitely not even remotely close to the figures quoted in a tabloid article."

Guess that should set all speculations to rest.

^^ Haha, but this one takes the cake.

Even when Aishwarya Rai was earlier on board, she had reduced her price and that too on an amicable note because she knew that the role was powerful enough.

What the huck is that supposed to mean? 😕

As far as I know, she reduced her price but was going to get a good share in the profits to make up for it.

Either Kareena didn't get paid that much or (more likely) someone's upset that she actually did

No, it was Kareena's PR at work with the 8 crore claims and now UTV and the Heroine team smacked it down!

If 'Whatever' was your opinion on this you should've said it in your first post. Not accusing Ash's PR first, and later, since it is obvious whose PR was at work, it becomes 'Whatever'.

Okay. 'Whatever'. 😆
