Anubhav on RA.ONE v/s ROBOT: What's the big deal?

Just four months remain for the release of RA.ONe and while the teaser promos continue to play on all entertainment channels, the debate has further intensified around similarities between Shahrukh's RA.ONE and Rajnikanth's ROBOT. While the entire 'spot the similarities' contest has been done to death ever since speculations began once the RA.ONE promo was unveiled; the most glaring of them all has been the train sequence which is common between the two.

RA.ONE and ROBOT

"In ROBOT, Rajinikanth saves Aishwarya Rai Bachchan from being assaulted in a running train by taking on more than a dozen odd goons. The most remarkable point of the entire extended sequence was Rajni running sideways on the train, something that was a first for the big screen," says an observer, "Now in RA.ONE too Shahrukh is seemingly suspended sideways on a moving train though it is yet unclear if he is trying to save someone who is inside the compartment or is just involved in a chase."

When contacted, Anubhav is nonchalant about the entire comparison and says that 'it is no big deal' to have a similar sequence.

"ROBOT may have had a train sequence and now we too have that. So, what's the big deal," questions Anubhav, "I am still not comparing how good my scene is or whether it is better than that of ROBOT; I am not even taking that lane. All I am saying is that if ROBOT had a similar sequence then well great, good for them."

Seems the makers have now taken the offensive route when it comes to RA.ONE v/s ROBOT comparison and aren't willing to take it lying down anymore.

The text is the same, but I highly doubt the film is the same...Ra.One was being made before Robot released. But fingers crossed Ra.one isn't lame. But than again, anything that has bebo and srk in it can never be lame! 😃

Another article on this:

Shah Rukh isn't worried about 'Robot' comparison

Shah Rukh Khan and Anubhav Sinha are no more paying any heed to charges of similarities between 'Ra. One' and 'Robot'. Shrugging away all the accusations, in the current set of promos they have even retained shots from certain portions of 'Ra. One' which gave hint of 'Robot' (for example the famous train sequence)

Though the sequence may turn out to have a different context to it, what is surprising is to see Shah Rukh Khan and Anubhav Sinha being nonchalant about it. This despite the fact that 'Robot' has been much seen and liked film which has managed such a cult status amongst it's audience that any similarity like this is bound to be immediately noticed.

"Guess it was all intentional to send out a strong message that 'Ra. One' wasn't worried about the comparison and was willing to take on detractors heads-on", comments a prominent filmmaker on condition of anonymity, "Shah Rukh doesn't seem to be worried about detractors. Otherwise why would he have included this shot when he had a mere 100 seconds to fill up for the teaser? He could have included anything else."

Tell Anubhav about the charge of copying, especially since 'Ra. One' would be arriving a year after 'Robot' and he fires away, "When you are making a film and end up realising that another released film already has a similar sequence, you do contemplate dropping you sequence if you are serving anything stale. But then we didn't even thing like that because we knew what we are making."

Continuing in his defence, Anubhav argues, "Also, for the records, let me state some more facts. We shot the entire train sequence last year in February while 'Robot' released later in October. Do I need to say more?"
