- Boys on the town in Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara.
1. It's (almost always) a gang of three!
Barring the four boys in Rock On!! B-town guy flicks always feature a trio, with highly stereotyped roles! We have 'Funny Guy', who doesn't get the girl, 'Drop-Dead Gorgeous Guy' who gets the babe, and 'Brooding Best Mate Guy' - the second-hero with a heart of gold.
2. Confrontation and then, patch-up
It's not all fun and no drama with these high school/college buddies. As in real life, there'll be emotional outbursts, fallings out over love, women, creative differences and other deep, dark secrets - but the 'fall out' plot drive always results in a lovely, heartwarming make-up scene.
3. The nagging girl
While the leading ladies are always well behaved, there's usually a nasty ex lurking in the background, threatening to tear the gang apart. The role fell to Suchitra Pillai as the snooty Priya in Dil Chahta Hai, Kalki as suspicious Natasha in Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara, and Sahana, as bitter Debbie in Rock On!!
4. Love takes a backseat
For an industry obsessed with matters of the heart, this genre shoves the B-town love story into the backdrop, instead putting the spotlight on friendship. While film-makers won't forgo the love angle entirely, first and foremost, it's about the bromance.
5. The road trip
Whether it's tracking down an old buddy (3Idiots), embarking on impromptu getaways (Dil Chahta Hai, Rock On!!) or heading out on adrenaline-fuelled, exotic travels (Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara), a road trip is the ultimate component to seal any boy bonding session - reel or real!
Can you think of any more??đ
