Love Actually

Romance is not my genre. Yes, I do like some Bollywood cheesiness, but saccharine sweet romantic films always turn me off. I didn't want to like Love Actually. In fact I was indeed bored the first half. I thought it was a slow paced boring movie and complained a lot. Everyone was sure I would hate it for the rest of my life. But in the end, at the airport scene, some magic happened and all the pieces of the puzzle finally fit together. What makes Love Actually good is that it is not over the top or cheesy, it has very down to earth elements. No holiday season is complete without watching it again. And with each viewing, and each year passing by, I understand a character better.

Fried Green Tomatoes

This is an incredible and warm feel good movie. Definitely a must see for women as it tackles friendship, marriage, relationships, aging and a whole lot more. The star cast is stellar with fabulous actors like Kathy Bates, Jessica Tandy, Mary Stuart Masterson and Mary Louise Parker. The movie transforms you the deep south of the depression era.



Idgie Threadgood is the character that describes me. Idgie is a tomboy and lives by her own rules. She dares to defy conventions in the conservative south, but still endears everybody. She is not afraid to take on the KKK, defends her black workers and is not afraid to get into any scrape. She is fierce in her friendship, fierce in her loyalties and will do anything to protect the people she loves. Unfortunately, unlike Idgie, I'm no bee charmer, I'm a damned sissy ass insectophobe.

Dostana

When I first saw Dostana, I loved it. It was hilarious. I laughed hard and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It was just one of those fun movies that you love to kick back and watch. I thought people who criticized the gay caricatures were just being too sensitive and picky. But over time I came to see their point. The movie does injustice to the gay community. It trivializes a lot of key issues and uses stereotypes and cliches for laughs. Even Adam Sandler had a better approach in Chuck & Larry. What threw me to the dislike zone was the fact that they might make a sequel. I still enjoy the movie, just dislike some aspects of it. I hope the sequel either does not bank on the gay factor or makes amends to what they did wrong.
