He is the original Bollywood brat. Despite a volatile temper and a tendency to rip off his shirt at every chance, Salman Khan is still the darling of the masses. Yesterday, he turned 40.
Salman Khan
Speaking to hitList from father Salim Khan's Panvel farmhouse, younger brother Sohail doesn't think 40 is a landmark, "How does it matter that bhai turned 40? At 40, you don't get better than this. Bhai is looking younger, day by day."
Time to disco
The Khan family brought in Salman's birthday with a big bash at the farmhouse, starting 12 am, on Tuesday. The party continued till late Tuesday evening. According to Salman's Man Friday, Nadeem, "The Khans will return to Mumbai today."
The entire clan, along with Salman's usual gang — Zayed Khan, Dino Morea, Sajid Nadiadwala and many others — had gathered to be with Salman on his big day. "Some friends from the industry may join them later," Nadeem told hitList on Tuesday.
Farmhouse kyun?
Says a family friend of the Khans, "It's just that the family wanted something different this year. Plus, keeping it in Panvel gives them a lot of privacy, which they never get in Mumbai."
"Bhai has always been special to us and we love him to no end," says Sohail. Mom and Dad were in Panvel since the last few days; they arranged for the cake. We thought we might as well join in. The last few days have been quite chilly, adding flavour to the occasion. It's just that things fell in place. There was no special reason to choose Panvel."
While Sohail had reached the farmhouse on Monday afternoon, Salman got there a few hours later.
Goa khaas hai
The Khan clan will fly down to Goa on December 31, to bring in the New Year; they are reported to have chartered a plane to reach their destination. Sohail admits that the family will chill out in Goa to bring in 2006, but denies that a flight has been chartered. "Hum itne ameer nahin hain," he says, with a laugh.
"We always say goodbye to the existing year and usher in the New Year in Goa," he adds. "That has become a permanent fixture with us. The bachchas of the family, too, love it there. And I am in love with the Taj Village in Goa. I would not exchange that hotel for any other venue for the New Year," concludes Sohail.
