It is a general idea that people love to hate others!

The reason I dont really considery a bolly celeb an icon is that they didnt do any nek kaam to reach there.

Like a doctor, lawyer, business man have different avenues of jobs, these guys act for a living. I dont think they are anything that Special to be called icons.

Somebody who has gone the extra mile to be a standing example decades later or atleast for a few years could be an icon. I dont see any of the current crop that way.

thinking about icons, I really think people who have a rags to riches story are icons for me- one of the reasons rajni is an icon is his rags to riches story. they give hope to the common man!

most of the current crop are starkids. I dont really respect them.

An icon for me is sushmita sen who went the extra mile adopted two orphaned girl children and is there every step of their lives instead of hiring nannies.

For me Mani Ratnam is an icon not for his movies, but for the work he does for the Banyan(he is the chief fundraiser of Banyan. This institute takes care of mentally ill destitute women on the roads of chennai and help them regain a life)

These people are not typical stars but some of their actions set them apart for me.

By MY principles an icon should be someone who doesnt endorse drunk driving, hunting, some one who takes his job seriously. In short someone who goes the extra mile. and ofcourse a monogamous/monoandrous person.

I cant take people who dwell too much on their red carpet appearances seriously.

And IMO Icon is sombody I look up to and who inspires me... That could be my dad or a teacher or a it can be someone walking down the street... Does not matter... 😊
Its just that in Bollywood all I see is a bunch of hypocrites and Yes they entertain me but definitely they dont inspire me...

I think hypocrites exist everywhere...but i guess its simply your opinion so i cannot question that.. but i do think .. that things that we observe very closely everyday.. start seeming less special to us.. bollywood is soo part of our lives.. that we don't think its anything special.. celebs are under 24/7 media scrutiny.. and all that.. if you put even a regular person under such scrutiny then you will start seeing flaws in them too!

An iconic person doesn't have to do good things to be considered iconic eg adopting a baby from Africa. Celebs who entertain and have a huge fan following can be considered iconic.

^ this is where it becomes difference in perceptions.

there are people who idolize entertainers and there are people who idolize do gooders! Im a fan of movies not stars.

I get annoyed with people who cant bother abt the homeless kids in their city and go all the way to third world countries to have rainbow colored families.🤔

someone who is an icon to me may not be an icon to anybody else as well.

Again... I did not say that hypocrites dont exist anywhere.... They definitley do exist and i have no doubts about it...
The TM's question was how it related to Bollywood and my answer was that I just dont relate it to Bollywood.... Simple... 😊

Lensa... agree its a matter of perception....and if everyones peception was the same this forum would have been a very boring place...
Different opinions... Different ideas... Different outlook... is what makes this place fun.... 😊
