Sunday night's tsunami relief concert had a unique auction, where the audience bid on their star-fantasies, including having tea with the Big B, or watching Sanjay Dutt work out.
The bids, currently on at bazee.com, end February 13, with the proceeds going to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.
While the amounts offered have more to do with the concern for tsunami's victims than what you can buy with it, it's also indicative of the cinema's star-power, over and above their box-office appeal.
Moments spent with Aishwarya Rai can fetch up to Rs 6,20,002 — a sure sign that regardless of how her films fare, she sits right on top of the Bollywood ladder.
We find out who or what attracted the highest and lowest bids in this auction.
On the sets with Shah Rukh – Rs. 5,80,000 If this is what someone is willing to pay to be with Shah Rukh Khan while he is at work, we wonder how much money could have been generated to catch star Khan at leisure.
Painting of MF Hussain – Rs 3,15,000 This is the one and only deal that also makes business sense. Except, we don't know the size and quality of the painting yet.
On the sets with Karan Johar – Rs 2,55,000 A good reason for Johar to finally get back to the film sets. Unless of course, the bidder wouldn't mind paying up the same amount to watch him host Koffee With Karan.
We guess that's not the case. In which case, we know Johar can blindly add a quarter million to his film's budget.
One hour with Sanjay Dutt in the gymnasium – Rs 2,02,500 What we don't know is what the bidder is meant to do for an hour while Dutt flexes his deadly biceps.
We're not suggesting anything, but definitely the deal should involve more than merely watching him, or taking pictures. We are talking about Rs 2 lakh after all. Bike ride with John Abraham – Rs 1,52,500 Now, this is a ride this newspaper once took as part of the pre-publicity for the picture Dhoom. Except we didn't know it was worth Rs 1.5 lakh — we would have happily passed on the opportunity to the bidder for one-tenth the rate. |
