Is this the right time to bring up 'Peepli Live' in this conversation? 😊

I agree completely. It is sad. And I dont see why movies arent made more on the issues of India than abroad.

On a side note, I love your unshaken loyalty towards Kareena-Saif. It's adorable =)

Since we are talking about need for innovativeness and original ideas, what do you guys think about adapting books for the screen? Is that any different/similar to remaking a hollywood movie? Basically, we're converting one form into another but the original idea is still copied, right?

Just thought about this since chatpati900 listed 3Idiots as one of her creative examples of movies that've been made. But 3Idiots has been adapted from 5 point someone.

totally agree. 3 idiots is def not an original idea. Doing a film based on a book is the same thing as copying a film kind of.

Hmm I guess I don't really count book adaptations as copies or rip-offs. Sure, the idea isn't exactly "original" but I feel like movies based off of books do infact "adapt" a book instead of copying it. The dialogues, screenplay etc. are usually pretty original simply because it's pretty darn hard to turn a book into a movie. Parineeta was based on a book but a lot of attention was given to details that weren't even part of the book. As for 3 idiots, I've heard that it's very loosely based on 3 Point Someone and that apart from the main characters, the story and screenplay is quite different.

I actually haven't seen Peepli Live and don't have much idea of what it's about other than the fact that it's a satire on farmer's suicides. It sounds like a pretty novel idea but it depends on how well it was executed. Just having a novel idea often isn't enough *cough*Love Story 2050*cough*

i agree, most of the bollywood films are rip offs of Hollywood films...yet they say ,'its different!'😆...however i believe- as long as v as audience enjoy the film, nothing else should matter...as far as rights/patents etc r concerned, let tat be the producers headache😉...

Just because Bollywood is now acquiring copyrights is because there is more awareness of property rights and legal consequences. If it wasn't that awareness and legal repercussions, KJo might not have bothered doing it the proper way.

The main point is copying and showing no creativity on your part. I guess it's easier way out. You don't have to think much. And what more will KJo think apart from some mushy love story and chuck in parents for emotional torture and glamour and perfect location. So he would rather copy and give some new dimension to his flick then give same ritualistic emotional sh*t.
