Aamir-Juhi patch up after 8 years
By Upala KBR
Juhi ChawlaAamir KhanJuhi Chawla whose film, My Brother Nikhil, releases next week has one more reason to smile.
Aamir Khan, her co-star of many films and an ex-good friend have
become friends again.
After eight years. The two buddies have decided to let bygones be
bygones and forgive and forget.
"Yes, it is true that we have patched up," says Chawla with a relieved grin
on her face. The mother of two has lost oodles of weight and is looking
glam in a silver top and black pants.
"It happened more than a year ago," reveals Chawla. "I went across to his
house and met him. All these years I thought Aamir didn't want to talk to
me and Aamir thought I didn't want to talk to him.
He believed that I didn't care enough to ask him why he was upset and
vice versa. I had been wanting for an opportunity to meet him and say
some things that were on my mind.
One day I just picked up the phone and told him, 'I am coming over to
meet you. I know you will give me time after three months but I am
coming over now'. I went over and we talked and talked and sorted out
things. Of course after that we have met only two to three times.
Though we are friendly there remains a bit of distance," she adds
wistfully. "I guess it will take a bit more time for things to go back to
normal, and back to the way we were."
The truce became public when Khan visited Juhi's home to offer
condolences for Mr. Chawla's demise. The gentlemanly so- typically-
Aamir gesture won over Juhi's heart.
Nobody knows what had caused the break-up in this friendship. Says
Chawla, "It was my fault and it was something so stupid. It happened
during the shoot of Ishq. One Ajay and Aamir were pulling my leg. They
would tease me and make caricatures of me.
That particular day one was kicking me and the other hitting me. Because
there was a guest on the sets I got embarrassed and told them "I can't be
treated like that." I should've taken it like a joke but I didn't. Instead I got
into a royal huff and then cancelled the shoot for the next day. That's
what upset Aamir.
When I met him after that he was cold. Whenever we met after that he
remained cold and I thought he didn't want to talk and sort out things so
I didn't call him. Whenever we met at parties or events we would just
exchange a formal 'hello' and that was it."
A lot of people feel it was her friendship with Shah Rukh Khan that
distanced Aamir from her. "What rubbish! That's not true at all," says
Chawla.
"In fact I thoroughly enjoyed working with Shah Rukh and Aamir, they are
both so easygoing and fun to work with."
She reminisces, "Once on my birthday Aamir came over with a bar of
Cadbury chocolate."
"Another time he got two teddy bears," Chawla bubbles with laughter
then sobers up. "Through my own stupidity I lost a lovely friend of mine.
Aamir is like a buddy. I can't believe I wasted so much time on something
so silly…"
