The recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, has shaken the entire nation. As a mark of respect and grief, several Bollywood personalities have either postponed their events or chosen to stay away from celebrations. Among them is actor Aamir Khan, who chose to skip the special screening of his iconic film Andaz Apna Apna. The 1994 comedy classic is scheduled for a re-release in theatres on April 25, after 31 years of its original premiere.
Speaking to journalist Subhash K Jha, Aamir expressed his emotional response to the tragic news. “I was reading reports about what happened at Pahalgam in Kashmir. I have been badly affected by the senseless killing of innocents. I was in no state to go (to the preview). I will see it sometime later this week,” he said. His words reflect the mood of many in the country who are disturbed by the loss of innocent lives.
The Bollywood fraternity has stood united in expressing condolences and outrage. Shah Rukh Khan wrote on X (formerly Twitter), calling the incident a “treachery and inhumane act of violence.” He extended heartfelt prayers to the victims' families and demanded strict justice. Salman Khan also shared his pain over the incident, saying, “Kashmir, heaven on planet earth turning into hell. Innocent people being targeted, my heart goes out to their families.”
In response to the attack, the release of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s upcoming film Abir Gulaal has been barred in India. Many see this move as a strong statement from the Indian film industry, which is increasingly taking a stand against cross-border violence.
While remembering Andaz Apna Apna, Aamir also opened up about the film’s early days. “Raj Santoshi and I were the only two people who believed in the film. We loved it. So, when it didn’t work, we were both sad. And then it goes on to become my biggest success on home entertainment!!! Both Raj and I were finally redeemed,” he shared.
Though it didn’t do well at the box office initially, the film eventually became a cult classic, loved for its humour and quirky characters. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the movie stars Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, and Raveena Tandon, with unforgettable performances by Paresh Rawal and Shakti Kapoor.
