The anticipation is palpable... I can feel it envelope me... that in two days, I'll finally be back home after months. From the high of New York to the buzz of Vegas and from the beauty of Kashmir to the serenity of Coorg, work took me away from family and friends but gave me a suitcase full of interesting experiences.
I've been in Coorg now for two months and it has been a cathartic experience... my private Vypasana! No mobile phones, no internet access and therefore no twitter / facebook or emails, no easy way to get to where we were and therefore not too many friends and family coming to visit. But, every cloud has a silver lining... and I found many which I hope to share with you in future.
One of my most memorable cinematic experiences from childhood is singing along with Julie Andrews as she listed 'a few of her favourite things' in the wonderful film, The Sound of Music. I stumbled upon this song again recently and I started singing along and suddenly found myself wanting to create a list of my favourite things. I'd like to share it with you ? it's not earth shattering but just things that make me happy:
-Waking up without an alarm!
-The first sip of morning coffee
-The first smell of rain
-The phone ringing when you've been expecting a certain someone's call
-A memorable song
-My director's praise after a shot
-Winning at a video game
-Winning a bet
-Putting moisturiser on a dry face
-Finishing a great book
-Cool wind in my hair with the car window down
-Euphoria of an ecstatic audience after my performance
-The look of pride on my parents' faces for my achievements
-A power hug when I'm sad
-My doggies' kisses
-A warm blanket on a cold day
My list is endless but the space for this column isn't. How about you all complete it for me?
