It's style wars between Bollywood actresses at Cannes Film Festival 2010. It seems, Ash -- in her modern yet classic gown looked good, but her hair-do was a disaster, Deepika Padukone -- looked splendid in a sari, with a strappy back-knotted blouse and Mallika Sherawat looked prim in her gown.
The style winner on the red carpet was Deepika, as Aishwarya appearance got a lukewarm response.
Over the years Ash has sported some stunning gowns but also made some obvious fashion bloppers. Her fans have criticized her hairdo. This year, her first appearance was in a sea blue tulle gown by Elie Saab. But her hair was a disaster as she sported a high bouffant and a period drama plait. Interestingly, Ash's appearance at the French Riviera is courtesy the hair care brand she endorses.
Designer Kapil and Monika say, "Aishwarya Rai's beautiful gown's colour matched her skin tone, but the hair do was a turn off. She's got a fuller face and a high hairdo highlighted its roundness. The neatness of the hairstyle is also questionable." Designer Reynu Tandon also feels her hairstyle is dated but Ash looked good overall, "Her hair isn't stylised as per 2010 trends but it is suiting her face," says the designer.
On the second day, Ash wore a stunning black sequined Armani Priv gown but her bouffant hairdo remained. "The puff is my major gripe I can't get over it. Why can't her hair be like Eva Parker?," says Nidhi Jolie, a fashion enthusiast.
It's Deepika Padukone who has rocked Cannes 2010 in her Rohit Bal sari. "Deepika gets thumbs up as she knows what looks good on her. Keeping it traditional is a very good idea. When it comes to international events like Cannes, it is always safe to keep away from experiments and sari has a modern yet traditional charm to it," says Ekta Bhardwaj, creative writer with a fashion magazine.
Whereas designers Kapil and Monica feel, "Deepika's make-up for Cannes was extremely garish making her look a tone darker than her actual complexion, her sari had no element of glam, and was wrongly accessorised with gold jewellery."
Mallika Sherawat's stint with Cannes has been always talked about. This year, her look seems simple and casual. "Her outfit looks dull for the red carpet, its a shame as she has a beautiful body," says Nidhi.
"It's sad to see Bollywood women wearing only western dresses by regular brands. They should take this as a big opportunity to showcase Indian style," says designer Puneet Nanda of Satya Paul.
