Firoz Nadiadwala's Deewane Huye Paagal has been in the news for all the wrong reasons since its inception. Whether it was the umpteen number of replacements or the arrest of one of its actors, the film managed to provide substantial fodder for gossip in the past few months. However, bygones are bygones and this film is finally ready to hit the theatres on November 25th. It looks like some of the onscreen commotion spilled over off screen, as well! A case of real life imitating reel life? Keeping in mind all the controversies it was shrouded in, we present some interesting tidbits about this film.
- This is Akshay Kumar's 6th film with producer Firoz Nadiadwala. They have worked earlier in Lahu Ke Do Rang, Hera Pheri, Awara Paagal Deewana, Aan – Men At Work and the upcoming Phir Hera Pheri. And except for Lahu Ke Do Rang all the films star Suniel Shetty as well.
- According to the script, Rimmi's character gets a threat. And so she moves to Dubai. Hence, the whole film was shot in Dubai.
- When the movie was launched, Ahmed Khan was slated to direct it. However, due to differences between Firoz Nadiadwala and Ahmed Khan, David Dhawan was asked to step in. Unfortunately David didn't have the dates for the film and so finally Vikram Bhatt was signed and taken on board. Interestingly enough, Ahmed and Firoz finally made up and now Ahmed is directing Firoz's next film Fool and Final.
- Earlier Anil Kapoor was slated to play the lead. However, when Ahmed Khan was not in charge of the project, Anil Kapoor was replaced with Akshay Kumar.
- After David Dhawan and Anil Kapoor were replaced, even the story of the film was completely changed. Only the title was retained.
- Actor Aftab Shivadasani who was also seen in Firoz Nadiadwala's Awara Paagal Deewane will be making a guest appearance.
- Vivek Oberoi is the narrator in the film and will make an appearance as well as the sutradhar in the start, post-interval and even in the climax. Other actors who have played sutradhars in the recent past include Shah Rukh Khan in Silsiilay and Naseeruddin Shah in Paheli.
- Not only is Vivek Oberoi making a special appearance, but he is also turning singer with this one. It is a rap song through which he introduces the characters.
- This film definitely marks a numbers of debuts. It will also see Vikram Bhatt penning the lyrics to a song for the first time. He has written the lyrics to the song that Vivek will sing.
- It looks like Vivek Oberoi managed to score quite a few brownie points with the producer by making his special appearance. He will now be seen in the producer's next film, titled Fool and Final, to be directed by Ahmed Khan.
- The unit faced quite a few problems as actor Vijay Raaz was arrested at the Abu Dhabi Airport, during their schedule. He was accused of possessing narcotic drugs. He plays Akshay's brother and has quite an important role. It would have been quite a problem to replace him as he had already shot for a substantial part. However, the matter was resolved and Raaz is very much a part of the film.
- Firoz Nadiadwala's films are known for their stunning action sequences. This film is no exception. It has some extravagant sequences, shot in the dunes of Dubai.
- Firoz Nadiadwala has spent an exorbitant amount of money on the action sequences. However, now he has chopped off many of those sequences for the final version of the film, so as to keep the focus on comedy.
- Anu Malik has the music of Deewane Huye Pagal to his credit. Not only has he composed the music, but he has also sung three songs for it. The songs are titled Dil Luteya, Chakle Chakle and Meri Jaane Jigar.
- As against media speculations, Deewane Huye Paagal is not a sequel to Awara Paagal Deewana. The rumors erupted because the font of Deewane Huye Pagal is exactly identical to that of Awara Paagal Deewane. Also the major cast and crew of Awara Paagal Deewana has been repeated in Deewane Huye Paagal from producer Firoz Nadiadwala, director Vikram Bhatt, music director Anu Malik, and the comic cast including Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal and Johnny Lever. Add to it Aftab Shivadasani, who was a part of Awara Paagal Deewane will also make a special appearance in this one.
- Firoz Nadiadwala has a fascination of sorts to include item numbers in his films. His previous films like Awara Paagal Deewane, Hera Pheri and Aan have had some hot numbers. This time too he has made every effort to include an item number that is rocking. A belly dancer named Lena was specially flown in from Morocco, to be featured in the song in question. Akshay Kumar, Shahid Kapur and Rimmi Sen will be giving this stunner some company, onscreen.
- This film is the first Bollywood film which will be shown in the most prominent mainstream multiplex theatres owned by Century Theatres throughout California
