People think SRK planned this?! Really? What do they think he is..an idiot? Who'd want such hungama about them people protesting in front of their houses, etc?

This makes me so upset. I was really looking forward to MNIK. It's def. not releasing in Maharashtra now.

But beyond this movie thing...the issue is that they've pointed fingers at SRK's nationality. So disgusting. And even disgusting is the mum bollywood who generally spews praises for SRK but when he needs the support, hardly anyone comes forward. And Big B is praising Bal Thackrey? Wow.
I would hate to bring in such a sensitive issue in here but is SRK being targetted firstly for his relgion, and secondly due to his upcoming movie which also somewhat has religion as the highlight? IPL may just be an excuse...
Someone else pointed that out. It was Rajdeep Sardesai. IBN network editor. Who knows, there could be truth to that as well.

His tweet:
basic question: why did shiv sena not attack big b when he supported pak players, why srk? is it because srk is an indian muslim?

Don't say that. Kya poora ka poor Mahrashtra Shiv Sena ke baap log kaha hai.
Shiv Sena ki aisi ki taisi. 🤬
My mother will be so disappointed once I tell her what tamasha has occured regarding this.
Shiv Sena from what I know are simply inhumane. SRK is no fool, and he definitely doesn't want lunatic goos after his family and him with such sensitive subject in hands.
I hardly doubt it's a gimmeck.

No SRK films in Mumbai till he apologises: Shiv Sena

CNN-IBN

Mumbai: The Shiv Sena on Tuesday issued a direct threat to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan warning him to apologise for backing Pakistani cricketers and his 'Mumbai belongs to all' remarks.

Senior Shiv Sena leader and former Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi warned that none of Shah Rukh Khan's movies will be allowed to be released in Mumbai if he failed to apologise for his comments.

"Whether it's Shah Rukh or anyone else, the Shiv Sena says he must take back his comments, so he'll have to do it. It's better if he understands this well. Shah Rukh Khan will have to apologise or else we will not let his film release in Mumbai," said Joshi.

Earlier, Shah Rukh told CNN-IBN in New York that he won't bow down to the Sena's threats and did not regret any of his comments whether it was on Pakistani cricketers in Indian Premier League or Mumbai belonging to all Indians.

The actor said he was proud to be an Indian and had done no wrong for which he should tender an apology.
l
Shah Rukh, who owns IPL team Kolkata Knight Rider, had said that the IPL snub to Pakistani cricketer was not right and the entire matter could have been handelled more tactfully.

He also flayed the Sena for its anti-North Indian stand saying that an Indian has the right to settle and work in any part of the country.

I would like to believe otherwise, but viewing the situation and how nasty it has gotten, my instinct suggests me that it somehow is interconnected with his religion. Didn't the Thackreys single his last name out and suggest that it's the 'Khan' in him which is letting him make such remarks with the matter of IPL; also with the illiterate Thackreys claiming SRK to play in Lahore and such is uncalled for.

What amuses me is to see how safe AB is appearing in this issue. He's praising the @$@#$ Thackreys yet pleasing the others by somewhat supporting SRK's statements. If Bollywood truly is an essential part of India, then I assume it must certainly be powerful and I wished other namely stars had stepped up to support on this stand, not for the sake of friendship or favors, but for the sake of defeating such pricks who create divisions and do not let the mindset of people move ahead.

I'm amused as to how though SS told him to pretty much get lost from the country...SRK is just as much of an Indian as those loony Thackreys, which means he has just as much right to the land.

Maharashtra govt comes to SRK's rescue, warns Shiv Sena

Prachi Jatania / CNN-IBN

Mumbai: Politics over Shiv Sena's violent protests against Shah Rukh Khan, calling him a traitor for saying that Pakistani cricketers should be allowed to play in the IPL, has intensified.

Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil has now come out in open support of Shah Rukh Khan and warned Shiv Sena against disrupting the screening of My name is Khan.

"Shiv Sena will have to pay through its nose if it indulges in ransacking or disturbing theaters screening movies of actor Shah Rukh Khan," said Patil.

Patil's warning came after a group of Shiv Sena activists shouted slogans demanding that SRK go to Pakistan on Sunday afternoon outside the Bollywood superstar's residence Mannat in Bandra.

Now battle lines are drawn with NCP which holds the Home portfolio in Maharashtra.

NCP leaders also took the opportunity to target Shiv Sena chief over the flip-flop on cricketer issue

"Bal Thackeray must remember that he was the one who invited Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad, who is related to India's most wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, at his residence. He should apologise to India," said NCP Minority Wing leader Nawab Malik.

But Shiv Sena's traditional ally BJP has came out in support of the Sena.

"If you have to stay in this country, you have to respect and praise it," said Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly Ekanath Khadse.

In Nagpur, Sainiks went on a rampage vandalising posters of SRK's yet to be released film My Name is Khan.

They garlanded his effigy with shoes in Kolhapur and even left a calling card - a poster-size letter labelling Shah Rukh a traitor outside theatres and multiplexes in Thane.

Given the concern over repeated threats from the Shiv Sena, Mumbai Police are taking no chances and have stepped up security outside Shah Rukh's residence.

But Shiv Sena's strategy of trying to gain political mileage from one the country's most popular men and a youth icon could possibly backfire.

Sena muck again, says SRK deserves Pak award

Published on Sat, Jan 30, 2010 at 19:25 in Politics section

Mumbai: Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Saturday said actor Shah Rukh Khan deserves Pakistan's highest civilian award, the Nishaan-E-Pakistan, for saying that Pakistani cricketers must be included in the IPL.

In an editorial in Saturday's party mouthpiece Saamna, Thackeray said that the "Khan" inside Shah Rukh Khan must be crushed by the "Har Har Mahadev" war cry of the "Shivaji" inside the Hindus.

This was an oblique reference to Chhatrapati Shivaji's killing of Bijapur general Afzal Khan, sent by Sultan Adil Shah II of Bijapur in 1659, at Pratapgad in Satara district of western Maharashtra.

The Shiv Sena hit out at Shah Rukh Khan, also the Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner, after he said he would have picked a Pakistani player for the Indian Premier League matches if his team had a slot.

IPL franchise owners did not bid for Pakistani players during the auction for the IPL III, which has snowballed into a major spat between the two countries.

The editorial said that if "Shah Rukh wants to give a red carpet treatment to Pakistani cricketers on the blood of innocent Indians slain by Pakistani terrorists from Kashmir to Mumbai", then, Thackeray warned, the Shiv Sena will never permit it.

It pointed out that by supporting the cause of Pakistani players, Shah Rukh has insulted the memory of the victims of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks--for which Pakistan may confer the Nishaan-E-Pakistan--but Indians will spit on him.

The editorial further noted that nobody from the Congress has raised a voice against Shah Rukh since he is considered close to Sonia Gandhi.

Thackeray wrote in his article that "since SRK has so much love for the Pakistanis the Bollywood actor could appoint 26/11 terror accused Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab as the captain of his Kolkata Knight Riders team and Mohammed Afzal Guru (facing death penalty for the 2001 attack on parliament) as the vice captain in the forthcoming IPL matches".

In this context, Thackeray praised Amitabh Bachchan for rejecting a doctorate awarded by Queensland's Brisbane University, to protest the attacks on Indians in Australia.

"This is true love for our country," he said.

In a related development, Congress state spokesman Hussain Dalwai wrote to state Home Minister R R Patil demanding security for Shah Rukh's forthcoming release "My Name Is Khan".

Dalwai also urged Patil to ensure that those police officers who cannot prevent violence or disruption of the movie within their respective jurisdiction must be suspended.

Former chief minister and union Minister for Heavy Industries Vilasrao Deshmukh Saturday criticized the Sena for its stand on Shah Rukh.
