Okay, now that 2009 is over, which film do you think was the best out of the lot ? I think 2009 gave us some of the most remarkable films of the last 2-3 years, my list would be:
1. Kaminey: One word - AweFome. Kaminey is India's first ever dark comedy, and no one but Bhardwaj could have made this film. It is perhaps the only film which I can say comes close to any hollywood standard. It was top-notch. One hell of a ride. Conceptually, it is similar to alot of other masala bollywood flicks, but the way the idea has been executed makes all the difference. This one's no 'casual' flick where you can simply lay back with a bag of popcorn. One will have to use his brain to understand the concept. This one tops the chart for me, hands down.
2. 3 Idiots: I had a hard time putting this film on the second spot, the only reason for this is it's climax, which I felt was a big phus. Otherwise, 3 Idiots is a winner all the way!
3. Dev D
4. Love Aaj Kal
5. Wake Up Sid
Would like to see your views :) 😃
*Edit: I changed my mind about the fifth spot hehe :)

I agree with a lot of what you said. Here are my top 5:

1. Kaminey: This is one of the best films I've seen coming out of Bollywood in a while. I loved the mad-cap energy, the quirky characters and the performance of the entire cast. Its a film I've watched multiple times now and every time I discover something new.

2. Dev D: The film completely turned the original novel upside down and gave such interesting twists to the principal characters of Paro, Dev and Chanda. Mahie and Kalki were both fabulous.

3. Luck By Chance: I think this was the year of great ensemble performances and that is one of the things I loved about LBC. It is a such a subtle, humourous but at the same time poignant take on the industry.

4. Love Aaj Kal: I loved the low-key romance of the present story and yeah the story had a few hiccups but I can ignore that for seeing a refreshing take on relationships in cinema. Same reason I like Dev D.

5. Gulaal: The second half of the film kind of starts slipping and all the vignettes never quite come together to make a satisfying whole, but its still one of the most engaging and interesing films I have seen this year. Also has some of the most splendid performances I've seen in a while.

I do not find kaminey on my list becoz of the actors...they look highly umimpressive especially Shahid Kapoor who hamped throughout the movie...this man cum little boy has to go a long way...better luck next time..but i dont have any doubts on vishal's direction. he is a great director. i luved omkara...but this didn't impress me

sad i couldn't watch Urmila, where are you dear...m still waiting for ya..
1. 3 Idiots is not only this yr's greatest movie but also it has surpasses all the best movies of previous years. the reason why 3I works becoz of his halka-phulka treatment, powerful emotions, tickling comedy and a great social message :) Its a winner all the way.
2. Paa : Amitabh ji was superb but i found vidya the best in the movie. she is getting day by day. the one mistake she attempted doing 'KK' with shahid kapoor, she has improved in this one and got back on track....good job vidya no need to do roles that doesnt fit on you even you have to pair with much younger roles...though i liked her in KK lol
3. Dev D - nice twist, stylish narattion and powerful script and screenplay gives u Dev D.
4. Wake up Sid : wow what a fresh and lovely story...awesome everything awesome just loved it....
5. Ajab Prem ki Gazab Kahani : an okay movie for time pass..nothing much special both i found it better than love aaj kal :)

Human Torch ji, great list. 👍🏼
I would also add Rocket Singh, Wanted and All the best to the list. And I'd get my list, in no particular order, of course. 😆
I agree about Kaminey, it was very mediocre.

1. gulaal all the way for me- The movie just blew me away... so powerful. Best actor in 2009- Abhimanyu Singh, its a shame that the media have not done their bit in promoting his talent.

2. 3 Idiots- For wholesome entertainment- been a while since i saw a commercial movie without having to cringe or walking out mid-way. It restored my faith in commercial cinema

3. Kaminey- Loved the madness. Thanks to VB for giving us Chandan & Amole

4. Dev D- Anurag made me love the story I loved to hate

5. WUS/ LAK

I totally agree with you about Abhimanyu Singh. I was pleasantly surprised to see him nominated at Screen. He'll probably be ignored everywhere else.

I wish that UTV had also picked up Gulaal instead of Zee and then maybe with adequate promotions the film would have had a shot.
