January 07, 2010, (Sawf News) - Kunal Kohli has moved filming of his romance thriller Break Ke Baad - starring Deepika Padukone and Imran Khan - from Australia to Cape Town, to protest the racial attacks on Indian students down under.
Deepika will probably welcome the change in locale considering that the film's title hits home as a painful reminder of her recent break up with Ranbir Kapoor and the two had grown close in Australia during the filming of Bachna Ae Haseeno.
In her new film Deepika will be romancing her ex's friend turned foe, Imran Khan.
The Hum Tum director turned producer, Kunal Kohli, told Hindustan Times, "When you film in a foreign country, you tap the local infrastructure and this benefits the government hugely in monetary terms. So it's only fair that the authorities there take steps to protect our immigrant community from attacks, like the one last week, where a student Nitin Garg was stabbed to death. Until they are able to do so, I've decided not to work in Australia."
Danish Aslam helmed Break Ke Baad is a modern love story set in Delhi and Australia. The film revolves around a couple who break up, as the title suggests, and then they want to come together.
Deepika, who turned 24 on January 5, has been busy signing films with top Bollywood stars.
She will be next seen in Karthik Calling Karthik directed by Vijay Lalwani with co-stars Farhan Akhtar, Boman Irani, Ram Kapoor and Shefali Shah. Deepika essays an edgy role as a short haired heavy smoker.
Deepika is currently filming for Ashutosh Gowariker's Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey in Goa with co-stars Abhishek Bachchan and Sikander Kher.
She was recently invited to dine with the Indian PM Manmohan Singh and Japanese PM Yukio Hatoyama. The Japanese Prime Minister was impressed with her role in her debut film, Om Shanti Om.
