KURBAAN LACKS SOUL
Was looking forward for this film, it had a good banner, good songs, amazing actors, and a hard-hitting subject with a good underlined message as been promoted by Saif Ali Khan. I thoroughly enjoyed saifs' interview and his view on muslims and terrorism, he also said this film is predominantly a love story, and has a lot of thrills, I was totally on board for a heart-wrenching love story with intimate sequences, heated arguments and discussions on islam, and a movie with a lot of twists and turns including all the thrills. But unfortunately everything promised was not there, nor I found the love story touching or intimate I think it was a waste of having an off-screen couple who were ready to show as much skin and intimacy as possible. The love story lacked soul, and the movie was not at all a love story, it almost felt as if it was a forced love story between all the bombings and terrorist attacks, neither this movie made my sympathetic or empathetic towards the muslims, in fact they were portrayed as merciless morons who just wanted to kill for no rhyme or reason. It really did not promote the religion islam in any which way, the only discussion I enjoyed was the classroom discussion. Thrills sure they were there but needed them to be a bit more dramatic, the love story in the beginning is good but did not give me a fussy feeling. Look the bottom line is at the end of the day the screenplay is the film's biggest hero, and this film's screenplay has made it lose, the movie did not overwhelm me in any which way. Saif Ali Khan is an amazing actor but was not utilised properly, Kareena Kapoor acted amazingly well but after a while even her character took a back seat, Vivek oberoi was quite good but unfortunately this role won't be doing wonders for him, but he is definitely back! Kareena-saif have good chemistry however the lack of a good screenplay lets it down, there's no confrontation between them, their love-making is anything but passionate, they didn't share any silent moments, there was basically not heat, and that was hugely disappointing! Overall this movie relies on a few good sequences, the actors and the director got too confident because of those. However this movie has nothing to offer in terms of thought or entertainment, there's nothing that you take back! Even the song kurbaan hasn't been used, the fact saif actually does give a kurbaani is not emphasised, the only sequence I liked was at the end when saif and kareena have their last conversation, that was really very good, but apart from that the movie sucks!
I give this movie 1.5/5
