I love this topic!

In my opinion an ideal does not defend a celebrity when they are wrong. I have noticed on part of several members that defend and justify wrong actions. Most members feel they are not 'loyal' when they don't support the celebrity. Loyalty is out of question. Finally, please don't waste hours on the internet defending a celebrity in a topic. It's a waste of time.

In terms of semantics, there is no such thing as a rational "fan". "Fan" is derieved from the Latin word for temple (fanum) which would mean that extremely unreasonable enthusiasm is the norm for a "fan". The more enthusiastic the "fan", the more ideal he/she is; that is if you were to apply the true meaning of the word.
Like adios, I don't think there are any ideal fans but I think that for slightly different reasons. While undying loyalty for an absolute stranger is not something I can wrap my head around now, I can appreciate that some people are passionate enough to defend someone they admire/relate to, etc. I do think there should be a limit for loyalty though as the fan should not let admiration cloud his or her judgment to the extent of compromising with their set of moral values. That is, one should support someone on basis of their morality (Is the action right or wrong?) rather than because of their admiration for the person (The person is sweet and nice ergo he/she cannot do anything wrong). This is where criticism comes in. Criticism is a crucial component of analytical thinking - which is something that you'll need in most fields. By analyzing any situation critically including those that paint the celebrity in bad light, you benefit yourself as you expand your critical thinking skills. Most people who have critical thinking skills usually can provide a vaild reasoning for their preferences and opinions rather than a simple "I [dis]like/[dis]agree (with) it". Obviously, not everyone does that and that's fine, too. Some people are more emotionally charged. What really oversteps boundaries, though, is when being a fan transgresses into obsession and infatuations which harms others or themselves. A crazy fan is someone who will not hesitate to bodily, emotionally or psychologically harm someone who does not suscribe to the fans' views. That is unhinged and there is no reason, logical or otherwise, in this madness.
Personally, I like to think I've outgrown the "fan" phase. I like some actors, dislike some actors based more or less on their acting and the kinds of roles they do; I really could care less about their sordid love polygons because just like XYZ is my vice, philandering might be theirs'. Of course, I'll pass a comment on it (because that's fun 😛) but at the end of the day, it is all water off a duck's back to me.

I am a huge fan of Miley Cyrus and I just cant stop adoring her. But when during 2008 when she went through a rough patch I knew that she had gone the wrong way. Although I didnt bash her (which i dont think i'll ever be able to do) but i didnt try to defend her actions either. I just took a neutral stand and waited for her realization of her mistakes which she did have. So, it was cool b'coz things turned out to be fine for me even when i didnt criticize her.

Ah the word fan... can be interpreted in many ways. Ill take an example im completely familiar with.. maybe you might be too.
In South Korea for the past 3-4 months there has been a huge outcry for one of the fallen leaders of a band group to come back. There have been flashmobs dedicated to him all over the world (Flashmob-where a bunch of people get together to dance and then disperse once the performance is over, kinda like the t-mobile advert 😆) then they had boycotts on other band members activity, theres been speculation after speculation on whether he would be back.. even stalking the leader back in his hometown of seattle.
What started it off was 'Anti's' a group of people who hate a person or band for a reason they keep to themselves, they had death petitions and all sorts. Now.. fans pop up and protect him but doesnt work, he leaves.
There are 3 type of 'fans' thereafter, the ones who take it, cant believe it, sleep on it, eat and read gossip about it but thats where it sorta stops.
Then you have the omg-i-will-do-anything-i-can-to-get-him-back. So they have flashmobs, and other organised events but its controlled. But sometimes you get the odd few who would die, cause havoc to show their love for the star.
Im a fan of various singing groups, actors and actresses, but i wouldnt dedicate my whole being to them.. i have bills to pay nd assignments to complete lol.
I wouldnt blindly support a person if they are wrong, no way. Thats just shallow
PS..great topic. 👍🏼

okay,what is a fan...??i too wonder.
from my experience ,there are fans here, obsessed people here.people do say that they rent fans of any one,but to me,they do come out like being very "anti fan" ish types.not a joke.
okay,if i consider my self,i would say i am a sane fan,of any freaking celeb.i do drool on some of them, but thats normal according to me,whats wrong there..?
i am a shahid fan,an srk fan,an hrithik fan,i support alll of them, when I find Them correct.it all depends on your perspective completely.support your favourite when he's right, and criticise when he's wrong..!!..its sounds cool..!!...but as a fan,its still a very difficult thing to do,and the one who suceeds in doing it,is an ideal fan.
it doesnt mean you have to criticise him/her when ever some thing negative comes out.it depends on what you feel.a fan survies on their view-points,completely.
being a fan and a fanatic is completely different.like today if i meet some one who says they wanna go worship shiney ahuja, inspite of his crime, thats a fanatic.
i consider my self a shahid/srk/hrithik fan.
and a dhoni fanatic.

Henna786, are you talking about JayBom from 2pm?
For me there isn't exactly an ideal fan either. I guess you're a good fan if you are able stand up for them when needed, yet have the courage to critisise them when needed. You need to accept their flaws and mistakes. I know my faves have bad qualities just like any human, but I'm a fan cuz I think they have many more good qualities. Ofcourse everyone thinks differently about different people. What attracts some to become fans might not attract others.
As long as you stay within certain limits and do not do stupid things for people who might not even know you exist it's all fine. Wishing death on other stars and such things is just silly, not even your fave celeb would be proud of you doing that!

An ideal fan is someone who is objective in their admiration and criticism. And by "ideal" and "objective," I'm talking from the perspective of others. When you are alone, be as crazy as you want. No one's there, so no one cares. But when you are on a public forum, don't force your opinions and fan-craziness on others. If people have opinions, let them state it. You don't have to counter each and every single one of them just to appear loyal. As chances have it, you'll probably end up sounding ridiculous because you don't have a good argument to counter it.

Exactly.. if you behave in a certain way to a celeb, your not doin any favours for your celeb fans, instead you make yourself and others look somewhat 'stupid'

Heres another light on things.. 'What is an idol' afterall that is whom a 'fan' would be following.
To me an Idol is someone who perhaps had a bad past but HAS reformed.. or someone who is humble actually good at their job (acting, singing, dancing etc).. someone you can learn from, for example, if the singer has had a bad past, struggling to get work then they pass on their wisdom to fans.
Although stars like the above are hard to find, but i do belive they exist. I dnt believe in having a womaniser has an Ambassedor (sp?) for some place and having them as the indian icon.. What do we learn from him.. what has he done to add to a better society??
