Amitabh Bachchan - The name itself conjures up a larger-than-life image. Be it name, fame, appreciation, recognition, awards or even a huge fan following, this megastar has achieved it all. If you're one of those crazy Big B fans, here's all that you ever wanted to know about him, starting right from his education and family life to his struggle to stardom. Read on to find out?

Life before entering Bollywood: Well, for all you Big B fans who want to know about this megastar's initial days, here's some interesting information about his past: Amitabh Bachchan did his schooling from Sherwood College, a boarding school in the hill-station town of Nainital, and from there he moved on to the Delhi University, where he earned an arts degree, after which, his career started. Before entering the mainstream Bollywood, he worked as a freight broker at a shipping firm in Kolkata but wasn't happy with the job and wanted to do something much better in life.

Bachchan's struggling days: Some people are born with the craft or are naturally gifted and we must say Big B is one of them. His brother Ajitabh clicked his photos around Calcutta's Victoria Memorial and sent those to a talent contest but, nothing happened! His voice was rejected at the AIR (All India Radio), Delhi. He was dropped from films like Guddi and rejected by directors like Manmohan Desai. Of course, later the Manmohan Desai-Bachchan pair gave us a number of hit films with outrageous storylines! From been rejected to creating enormous name for himself in the world of entertainment, Amitabh Bachchan has come a long way!

Big B's first film: Saat Hindustani was his first film, which was directed by K. Abbas. Most people are aware of the fact that it was Indira Gandhi, who helped Big B enter Bollywood. She wrote a letter of introduction for him, which helped him get his first break in Bollywood. But apart from her do you know who is to be credited for AB's existence in Bollywood? Well, the credit goes to none other than Tinu Anand! Big B's pictures were sent by his younger brother's friend to K. Abbas. Tinu Anand was to act in the project but dropped out on being called by Satyajit Ray to join him as his assistant. AB replaced Tinu and that's how he got his first film.

Big B ties the knot: Want to know how Amitabh Bachchan's love story with Jaya Bachchan started? Well, their romance began at the Pune Film Institute in the early 1970's. Jaya was a popular student of the Institute, where K.Abbas one fine day arrived with his bunch of actors. One of them was painfully thin and tall, dressed in a simple white kurta and black trousers with chappals. Let us tell you that, this thin man was none other than Amitabh Bachchan. Jaya had secretly started admiring him already. They got married on 3rd June, 1973.

A happy family: Amitabh Bachchan, since the very beginning has been very close to his kids ? Shweta and Abhishek Bachchan. Believe it or not, but this angry young man would bathe Abhishek every Sunday in a typical Allahabadi style by giving him a mustard oil massage and putting loads of oil on this head. This went on till Abhishek was about 11 years old. In fact, sources close to the Bachchan family have been quoted in national dailies saying, "Bachchan loves his kids. He would become a horse for them while playing with the kids. He would literally bring the roof down if someone fell ill in the house and would wake up in the middle of the night to check whether his kids were properly tucked inside the blanket or whether the draft of the AC was directly on their faces." Isn't this enough for one to understand how loving he is. Even today, he's the same Amitabh Bachchan with his grand children.

Hits and flops: Big B has given a number of hit films in Bollywood till date. But he's also been unlucky at times. Talking about his hit films, Sholay is right on top in our hit list. Also, Deewar, Agnipath, Don, Qurbani, Laawaris, Shahensha, Amar Akbar Anthony, Muqaddar Ka Sikander, Namak Halal, Zanjeer, Silsiley, Bombay to Goa, Yaarana, Waqt, Mohabbatein, Bhootnath, etc are some of his hit films. As far as his flops are concerned, some of them are Mrithyudata, Lal Badshaah, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Jaadugar, Sooryavansham, Hindustan Ki Kasam, Saat Hindustani, God Tussi Great Ho, Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag and Sarkar Raj to name a few.

Actor turned host: Bachchan really surprised the audience as the TV host of the popular show, Kaun Banega Crorepati, that went on to become the National evening habit. Nau baj gaye kya became the popular question in town. Also Bachchan's style of saying, 'Please, please don't go away!' or 'Shabba khair, subhratri and goodnight' or even 'Please take care of yourself,' caught the fancy of the audience.

Ad's Big B endorses: Wouldn't be wrong to say that this star is one of the hottest advertising mascots and also one of the most highly paid celebrity for commercials. Well, that's one big reason why he's seen endorsing a number of products whether or not, they're worth endorsing. Bachchan endorses numerous brands like Dabur, Max New Life Insurance, Emami Boroplus, Cadbury, Parker, Reid & Taylor, ICICI, Pepsi and lots more.

Big B vs SRK: The coldwar between the superstar duo started off in 2007, when due to some sickness Big B couldn't host Kaun Banega Crorepati 3 and Shahrukh Khan was offered to host the show. The audience started comparing the two of them and that's when things started changing between them. But looks like the big fight is slowly coming to an end. In 2008, last year Big B and SRK were spotted together in Bhootnath. In fact, the two of them have also signed up for Farah Khan's Happy New Year, for which they'll soon start shooting this year (2009).

'Bigg Boss 3' gets bigger with Bachchan: After hosting Kaun Banega Crorepati season 1 and 2, Big B is back with a bang on Colors. Actress and host Shilpa Shetty was finally replaced by Bachchan on Bigg Boss 3. When it comes to hosting a show, we must say there's something special about Amitabh Bachchan, may be it's his deep baritone voice or his strong personality that makes him a hit host. He's just so amazing in everything that he does, be it acting, hosting a show, singing, dancing, etc.

Bachchan's entry in politics: After winning a million hearts as an actor, Bachchan though of trying his hand at politics in 1984, as he was closely associated with Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. He was elected to parliament with a huge majority from his home city of Allahabad, but was soon said to be involved in some scandals and that's when his political career came to an end. He gave up his seat in parliament, vowing never to be involved in politics again and continued acting in Bollywood.

Big B's costly passion: Well, just in case you didn't know, let us tell you that Big B has 11 cars. Yes! You read that right. Here's a list of Bachchan's car collection: A Rolls Royce Phantom, a Bentley Continental GT, Mercedes SL500, a Porsche Cayman S, a Range Rover, a Lexus LX470, a Mercedes E 240, a BMW X5, a BMW 7 Series, a Mercedes S320 and a Ford Mondeo. His favourite of all, is his Lexus, which is bulletproof, has radial tyres that are normally used for Formula 1 races and is worth Rs 3.5 crore. Now, isn't that enough to reaffirm his status as the biggest star of Bollywood?

Upcoming films: Big B has five films lined up by the end of this year. Aladin, is all set to release on Oct 30 (2009), while Paa is said to hit the silver screen on Dec 4 (2009). Big B has played a 12-year-old in Paa, where Abhishek will be seen playing daddy to his daddy. Sounds interesting, doesn't it? Also, Teen Patti, Rann and Shoe Bite will be releasing this year end, for which the release date hasn't yet been fixed.
