Riteish Deshmukh kicked out of Gymkhana
In a country where one usually gets things done by throwing one's weight around, actor Riteish Deshmukh and his brothers Amit and Dheeraj have realized that they haven't been throwing it in the right direction.
The three brothers have been kicked out of the prestigious Khar Gymkhana. The Gymkhana has sent show cause notices to the Deshmukh brothers asking them why their membership should not be cancelled as it is illegal. The official version behind this step is that they were granted membership after 1996 though the gymkhana had frozen all membership in 1985.
The unofficial reason however, is that the Gymkhana committee has realized that the VIPs have not granted it the favour that was expected of them. Gymkhana is fighting a case against the state government to keep it's land. The land belongs to the state government and the lease is renewed every three years. Though membership to the general public was denied post-1985, the gymkhana's managing committee offered honorary 'lifetime' memberships to certain VIPs in later years thinking they would help the gymkhana renew the lease. The gymkhana even paid Rs 2.17 crore to the government after the collector's office offered to sell the land, a gymkhana member said. However, the government after a rethink refused to part with the land. The gymkhana then moved the Bombay High Court to get the money back. The matter is still in court. However, none of the VIPs have yet helped to sort out the matter, hence the notices.
Better Riteish and brothers run to daddy for some help.
