David Dhawan has always made wacky and bizarre films and his new baby Do Knot Disturb doesn't push the envelope either. His critics may term his cinema outlandish and outrageous, but the fact is that his films cater to the aam junta. His mantra is simple: haso aur hasao. Now let's analyse Do Knot Disturb, inspired by the French film La Doublure aka The Valet (2006). David has tackled extra-marital affairs in his earlier films like Saajan Chale Sasural, Gharwali Baharwali and Biwi No 1. Do Knot Disturb also talks of a married man having a torrid affair with a supermodel, but it's not remotely similar to his past endeavours. Actually, Do Knot Disturb rests on a thin plot and David relies on gags and jokes to keep you hooked for those two-plus hours. Even though you realise that there's not much meat in the story, even though the situations are silly, you remain glued to the proceedings because it keeps you in splits thanks to the funny jokes and the weird characters. So what's the verdict? Do Knot Disturb is sure to keep you smiling from start to end. A few portions may even prompt you to laugh aloud or break into a guffaw. If non-stop mindless entertainment is on your mind, this recipe is just for you. Do 'Knot' miss this one! A filthy rich businessman (Govinda), married to a beautiful and sophisticated woman (Sushmita Sen), tries to hide his extra-marital affair with a supermodel (Lara Dutta). To save his skin, he bribes a waiter (Ritesh Deshmukh) into pretending to be the supermodel's boyfriend. What follows is a series of mistaken identities and misunderstandings. David Dhawan opens his cards at the very outset. The emphasis is on comic situations, while the story goes out of the window after a point. You don't mind it purely because the motive, like always, is to keep you in splits and Do Knot Disturb succeeds to a large extent. At the same time, writer Yunus Sajawal takes a long route to reach the culmination. The Ranvir Shorey dual role sequence, for instance, seems unwarranted. Also, Sohail Khan's portions looks forced in the narrative. Even otherwise, the post-interval portions are very lengthy, although the comic scenes compensate for the deficiencies in the writing. David Dhawan is the Big Boss of laughathons and Do Knot Disturb proves his supremacy yet again. You may argue that the goings-on are plain ridiculous and ludicrous, but the entertainment quotient is so high that you ignore the weak plot gradually. Nadeem-Shravan's music is pleasant. The songs are well filmed too. Vijay Arora's cinematography is excellent. Dialogues (Amit Aryan) are first-rate. In fact, a few one-liners actually bring the house down. Govinda is matchless in a David Dhawan film and Do Knot Disturb confirms this fact yet again. In fact, there are certain parts that only he can portray and David taps that potential to the fullest. Watch Govinda when he suddenly starts speaking in a female voice during the Ranvir Shorey episode. It's howlarious! Ritesh Deshmukh is superb. Matching Govinda in scene after scene is next to impossible, but Ritesh stands on his feet all through. His scenes with Lara also are thoroughly enjoyable. Lara Dutta springs a pleasant surprise. Known for glamorous roles uptil now, she handles the comic act extremely well. Also, she looks sensuous in several scenes. Sushmita Sen is wonderful, though she gets limited scope to prove her mettle. Sohail Khan's role is sketchy, hence it doesn't make an impact. Ranvir Shorey is excellent. Manoj Pahwa and Rajpal Yadav are amazing in their respective parts. Himani Shivpuri is alright. Rituparna Sengupta is hardly there. On the whole, Do Knot Disturb is a mass entertainer that keeps you entertained and smiling/laughing in most parts. At the box-office, this one lives up to the hype and expectations and that in turn should reflect very strongly in its business.

Verdict: Three and-a-half stars

Movie Review: Do Knot Disturb;
Star cast: Govinda, Sushmita Sen, Ritesh Deshmukh, Lara Dutta, Sohail Khan, Ranvir Shorey, Rituparna Sengupta, Rajpal Yadav and Manoj Pahwa;
Director: David Dhawan;
Rating: * - Assault on your senses.

Govinda plays a rich husband married to Sushmita who owns the Saxena Group of industries. On the sly he has been having an affair with Dolly (Lara) an item queen who has dumped her ex (Sohail Khan) for greener pastures. Govinda's kicked out butler Nandu (Rajpal) in an attempt to get back at him clicks a photo of him with Dolly and sends it to his wife. When she confronts Govinda over it he manages to escape out of the tricky situation by claiming a passerby who appears unintentionally closer to Dolly in the picture as her boyfriend. Knowing well that she won't stop at this and try to find out the truth behind it, he starts hunting for the passerby who turns out to be a waiter, Goverdhan (Ritesh). Govinda lures him into playing Dolly's boyfriend for sometime till his wife gets convinced about it. But at the same time, she proves smarter by hiring a private detective friend Nunnu (Shorey) to catch them red handed. Add to that Dolly's hot headed ex desperately wanting to thrash her new boyfriend and win her bback What follows next is total chaos!

You know when you enter a film like Do Knot Disturb, logic should be the last thing on your mind considering the names it comprises of but then what you encounter is a huge let down. A two timing hubby is no more a novelty on screen and Govinda and David Dhawan have churned out many films revolving around this theme earlier. But this time around they fail together. In the name of comedy in here you have actors yelling at the top of their voices or breaking into female tones for no rhyme or reasons, outdated situational jokes about a dead body going around a hotel, slapping spree meant to derive laughs, faulty characterizations. The film is supposedly completely set in Delhi and the characters too keep saying this but it appears not a single frame seems to have been shot in the capital city. Dubai-Abu Dhabi has been passed off as Delhi. In fact Ritesh's hotel is shown at a sea side with yachts parked. The makers seem well prepared to take their audience on a ride it seems.

Nadeem Shravan's music is dated like the film's jokes barring the Bebo number. Sets are gaudy and camerawork functional.

Govinda can create a laugh riot amongst the masses if he decides to but here barring a few comic sequences he is mostly resorted to yelling his lines in the name of humour. Ritesh on the other hand is much subdued and likeable as the greedy waiter. Lara Dutta looks WOW and acts ably and displays good flair for comedy. Sushmita Sen is hardly there in the first half and practically ignored in the second right till the climatic moments. (No wonder there were rumours about Sushmita being pissed about this fact) Ranvir Shorey is funny but why such a horrendous wig for him that threatens to fall any moment. Sohail Khan's character could have been developed further as he is genuinely funny in his angry moments. Rajpal Yadav and Manoj Pahwa manage a few laughs. But one wonders why makers feel Rajpal Yadav needs to be whacked around in all his roles to get laughs! Rituparna hardly gets any scope.

Do Knot Disturb is a comeback of the No.1 series trio of producer Vashu Bhagnani, director David Dhawan and Govinda but alas it is no where close to any of their earlier ventures!

Do Knot Disturb Movie Review

By Martin D'Souza, Bollywood Trade News Network

Sssssssshhhhhhh! DO KNOT DISTURB... This is a knotty affair... Enter at your own risk!

David Dhawan has flopped and flopped miserably. He comes out with no script, creates silly situations and expects his cast to enact with conviction and have the audience in splits. Pity, because he had such a talented line-up of stars that are sadly made to jump around without rhyme or reason. Govinda, Riteish Deshmukh, Rajpal Yadav, Ranvir Shorey, Sohail Khan, Lara Dutta... all are made to do meaningless scenes.

It all starts because Govinda has been caught in a frame with his girlfriend. Fortunately, for Govinda, Riteish Deshmukh wanders into the frame while the photograph is being taken. The said photograph lands on Sushmita Sen's table. She wants to get to the bottom of her husband's affair. She hires a detective to follow Govinda while Govinda tracks down Riteish and pays him to pretend to be Lara Dutta's boyfriend. From one bizarre situation to another, the movie moves on...

Songs pop up at unexpected turns and you end up feeling bad for the director who gave us a few No. 1 hits.

PS: Do Knot be surprised if this film does well in single screen theatres!

Movie Review: Do Knot Disturb (2009)

Cast: Ritesh Deshmukh, Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta, Sohail Khan, Ranvir Shorey and Rajpal Yadav

Producer: Vashu Bhagnani

Director: David Dhawan

Music Director- Nadeem-Shravan

EXCLUSIVE REVIEW BY HANUMANT BHANSALI

The comedy King of Bollywood David Dhawan is back with a bang with Do Knot Disturb. Like other films of David Dhawan this movie also capers on ultimate comedy with enormous humour and eventual on screen timing.

The movie stars none other than his much-loved star Govinda along with Ritesh Deshmukh, Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta,Sohail Khan, Ranvir Shorey and Rajpal Yadav. The movie is produced under the banner of Puja Films Pvt. Ltd.

The movie revolves around a rich businessman (Govinda), who lives on his wife's (Sushmita Sen) money who is a super successful and a stunning woman. Tired of this dominant life governed by her wife, Govinda tries to find a way out of the loop and falls in love with Lara Dutta (The Supermodel). And thus kick starts a series of events which takes you through the hilarious ride.

To hide his extra-marital love interest Govinda entices and hires a waiter- Riteish Deshmukh to act as Lara Dutta's boyfriend. Sushmita Sen finds something suspicious and appoints a private detective Ranvir Shorey to unveil the truth.

There is also Sohail Khan an angry young man, the ex-lover of Lara Dutta, whom she leaves for this rich businessman. But still Sohail is madly in love for the lady.

The positives about the movie are- firstly it's a David Dhawan film which means it will keep you entertaining till the end by it's wacky one liners. Secondly the movie experiences the finest comic actors- Govinda, Riteish Deshmukh, Rajapal Yadav and Ranvir Shorey, all with witty sense of humour.

Thirdly, like other films from the director this one too has no logic and impact storyline, though leaving your mind fresh when back home. And finally one would not like to miss to see two stunning, gorgeous and voluptuous ladies, Lara Dutta and Sushmita Sen in the same film.

The negatives about the movie- Firstly there are few scenes where you see Govinda and Lara Dutta overacting and this bores the audience. Secondly, there is no strong storyline in the movie and leads aimlessly. Thirdly, songs and the music are unbearable and get on to the nerves. Finally at times the film appears to be lengthy and turn off the interest of the viewers.

Overall it's an average flick and fails to meet the expectations of the audience and the class of his previous comic adventure.

The comic duo of David Dhawan and Govinda, who have produced hits like Haseena Maan Jayegi, Coolie No 1, Saajan Chale Sasural, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan to name a few, get together once again for 'Do Knot Disturb'. The laugh riot also features Ritesh Deshmukh, Ranvir Shorey and Rajpal Yadav with Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta as the female stars. So can the Govinda - Dhawan duo who have worked in more than 15 films together, come up with yet another winner?

The movie is yet another take on the institution of marriage. It is about the entangled affairs of a rich business man (Govinda), who basically is living life king-sized on his wife's (Sushmita Sen) money. With everything running on the beats of his wife, the frustrated husband gets involved with a supermodel (Lara Dutta). However, his wife smells something fishy and hires a private detective (Ranvir Shorey) to keep an eye on the moves of her husband. To save his marriage and to break the mistrust of his wife, Govinda bribes a waiter (Ritesh Deshmukh) and asks him to pretend to be the model's boyfriend. The waiter in desperate need of money to treat his sick mother agrees to act as the super model's boyfriend. Oh wait, thats not it. The super model also has a angry ex-boyfriend (Sohail Khan) whom she dumped for the richness of this married man. But he still seems to be madly in love with her. How this knotty affair is resolved forms the rest of the tale.

Do Knot Disturb Review

Why you may want to watch Do Knot disturb

If your a David Dhawan or Govinda fan, go for it. Since its a David Dhawan movie, there is no scope for any logic whatsoever. So leave your brains back at home, try and enjoy whatever the director has in store. Do not Disturb does manage to bring out the laughter pangs and entertain you. The initial reels are entertaining. Some dialogues are witty and funny. Govinda easily outshines the rest of the cast. Does tend to overact quite a few times, but his comic timing is still intact. Ritesh Deskmukh too has a good sense of comic timing and effortlessly carries off his role. Sushmita Sen has put on a lot of weight for her role, yet she looks good and acts well. Ranvir Shorey and Manoj Pahwa are good.
  • Cinematography is great, everything looks beautiful. But you do wonder if your in Delhi or some foreign location.

Why Do Knot Disturb is not worth the trip to theaters

Like most David Dhawan films the plot is wafer-thin. The director tries hard but Do Knot Disturb doesn't come close to being as good as those numerous hits of the 90s. If you go in expecting this to be another comic classic, you will come out disappointed. The movie lacks consistent entertainment; starts off well - dips, bores - picks up and eventually the climax was abrupt. Songs are just a waste of time, unnecessarily included. Placement of songs again reminds you of most of the directors previous films. Lara Dutta indulges in loads of skin-show and over-acts at every given opportunity. Her performance felt more like a retard than a naive yet spoilt model.
  • Rajpal Yadav is being type-cast in similar roles.

Overall, Do Knot Disturb scattered fun. It entertains in bits and pieces but not enough to deserve the price of your ticket. 2 on 5 stars

Do Knot Disturb: Movie Review
After disturbing and disrupting several Hollywood and South Indian films over the past two decades, David Dhawan seems to have discovered that there's enough to be duplicated from his own bank of slapsticks.

So the characterizations of Govinda and Sushmita Sen are directly derived from
Kyunki Main Jhooth Nahi Bolta . The source material is obtained from Sushmita's solo claim-to-fame Biwi No.1 with the basic plot of a married man falling in love with another girl. Just this time Sushmita is upgraded to playing a Gharwali while Lara Dutta is cast as the Baharwali.

One Kunwara Riteish Deshmukh is hired by Govinda to pose as baharwali's boyfriend so that gharwali doesn't doubt him. Enter baharwali's ex-love Sohail Khan who is undergoing anger management lessons analogous to Salman Khan in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi . Gradually the commotion in this comedy-of-errors (rather erroneous comedy) gives a dj vu effect of Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya .

So disinterested are you in this disturbance that when a dead detective (Ranvir Shorey) keeps drifting throughout the second half, you indifferently end up saying Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron . The writers are undeterred by the fact that Lara Dutta almost did the same deadpan drama in Masti and the adulterous plot almost played on similar lines in No Entry .

The characters don't speak but scream, don't act but emphasize on antics and the director seems to take the term slapstick somewhat literally, sticking to a slap in every alternate scene. Forget credible characterizations, even character names are as ridiculous as Diesel, Gobar, Nunnu or Bantu. There are baseless tributary take-offs on Deewaar that do not amuse at all. As much boring and bland each gag is, the director has the audacity to repeat them for a second and third time.

And when Dhawan realizes that the screenplay cannot be stretched any further, all conflicts are conveniently resolved in split-seconds through emotional outbursts. One would have even endured this agony had the film ended there. But it continues for some more moments to show a rotund and repulsive Sushmita Sen and an abrupt and absurd end.

It pains to see the comic genius of the trio of Govinda, Riteish Deshmukh and Ranvir Shorey to be criminally wasted in a shoddy script. As attractive as Lara Dutta maybe in the film, she acts horribly. Sushmita Sen seems to be conned in an extended special appearance. Sohail Khan isn't funny. Despite his histrionic hamming, Rajpal Yadav induces some residue laughs.

'Fun lies behind closed doors' reads the tagline of the film. One would rather close doors to such farcical fun. It's time directors STOP taking the viewer for granted. Take the cue from the title. Do not bother to disturb yourself for this deafening drama.

Do Knot Disturb yourself with this film

If David Dhawan and Govinda come together in a film, you can be sure of some non-stop entertainment. After all, they have rained down hits like Coolie No 1, Hero No 1, Deewana Mastana and Partner.

Unfortunately, Do Knot Disturb falls way short of expectations and you start wondering if the director has lost his magic touch.

The trouble with the film is its story. It's so weak that one cannot expect the actors to do their comic act and keep the audiences entertained.

Govinda plays a rich businessman, whose interest is only to take care of his mistress Dolly (Lara Dutta rather than do any work. He runs his wife's (played by Sushmita Sen ) business, who guesses that her husband is cheating on her. She hires a detective (Ranvir Shorey ) to catch her husband in the act.

Govinda outsmarts her by getting Ritesh Deshmukh to act as Lara's boyfriend, so that his wife rests her fears.

The problem arises when Govinda starts doubting Ritesh's intentions. Much else unfolds on screen but you're bored stiff by now.

Rajpal Yadav and Sohail Khan try to make the plot interesting but they fail as the story goes nowhere. The dialogues are loud and repetitive.

Lara Dutta fails to impress and Sushmita Sen has put on oodles of weight. Hello, just because you're playing a housewife doesn't mean you have to put on so much weight!

Govinda and Ritesh do well but the script fails them.

Music director Nadeem-Shravan return after a long time but they have come up with only one good song called Bebo.

The film has some good one-liners but that is not what you expect from a David Dhawan film. Do Knot Disturb yourself this weekend on this film.

1.5/5

Review: Do Knot Disturb yourself with this one!
In Hindi films, it's the pervert middle-aged man's fantasy – that he has a gorgeous wife at home but can still cavort with sexy girls half his age. Extra-marital affairs have been the subject of several of David Dhawan's films, but a treatment that ODs on infantile sexual innuendos is hardly amusing today. In the cruel ways of the Hindi film industry yesterday's hot girlfriend (Sushmita in Biwi No 1) is today's helpless wife being cheated on by the fat and spineless husband (Govinda). Kiran (Sushmita) is a multi-zillionaire business honcho who roams around in helicopters wearing expensive hats. The house and cars that her husband (Govinda) uses so nonchalantly is also hers. This, we are told, is the reason he salivates over superhot Dolly (Lara Dutta). She already has a possessive boyfriend (Sohail Khan) who is infuriated with the affair. Govinda's character brings in Riteish Deshmukh's Gobardhan (yes, plenty of jokes on that name) to convince his wife that Gobardhan and Dolly are a pair. Kiran, on the other hand, hires a detective (Ranvir Shorey) who keeps falling off chairs while trailing his subjects. Other characters like an unscrupulous hotel bellboy and an interfering manager also enter and story developments include a character losing memory and a look-alike pooping up for a few moments. In the name of comedy "for the aam junta", everyone hams unbearably. Also, in the name of comedy, you have gay jokes, comparing women to property, obscene gestures, and character names like Diesel, Bunty, Nunu and Mangu. What's not funny is children in the audience taking in the overt, often vulgarly sexual overtones in the jokes and laughing along. Govinda lives up to his reputation and arrives in orange suits, with a bright blue shirts and blindingly colourful ties. He seems out of sync and his performance is severely dreary and repetitive. Sushmita looks overweight, but manages to be fabulous as the zillionaire diva. Lara Dutta overacts throughout. The only saving grace is Riteish Deshmukh who makes you chuckle a couple of times. Music by Nadeem-Shravan and lyrics by Sameer give us mediocre songs like 'Bebo bebo' and one that goes 'Don't leave me, main mar jaoonga'. Do knot disturb yourself with this one; and if you must see it, kindly leave the children at home.

Verdict: One-and-a-half stars
