The Kaminey dude from DU
He may have ultimately been shot dead in Kaminey, but life's just started for actor Chandan Roy Sanyal, who plays the character of Mikhail in the film. And he's evidently loving the attention he's been getting. "Imtiaz Ali sent me a message saying 'You rocked', Vishal Bhardwaj said to me, 'Tu bahut ga**u hai', Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra held both my hands and said 'Superb'. Others thought if I had more screen time, I would've been the guy… the real kamina," he says. So does he wish he had a longer role? "No, I thought it was perfect," comes his prompt reply.
Although he's been getting "hundreds of fan mails on Facebook", the actor, who's in bed because of a cervical problem, hasn't had screaming fans come up to him for autographs just yet. "I haven't met any groupies yet, yaar. I'm still waiting for that. But I got mails from girls saying, 'We were Shahid Kapoor fans, but now we are your fans', and I was like — 'How is that possible'?"
Is he at all like his character in the film? "Today, a friend from Delhi called and said, ''aine socha tu bauhut achi acting karega, but you've just played yourself on-screen'. And I was like 'Kisi ko bataane ka nahi, sabko bol acha
acting kiya hai'," he replies.
The actor adds that the success of the song Dhan Te Nan, made him realise his popularity. "It's like first time when you have a joint or a glass of alcohol and you keep telling your friends, 'Kuch ho hi nahi raha yaar'. But then it hits you and you are like, 'F**k yaar… ab hit ho raha hai'. That's what it felt like. But I have short school-boy hair now. I see
people talking about Mikhail but they don't realise he's standing right next to them," he says.
Few know that the Delhi boy studied at Delhi University's Zakir Hussain College. Talking about his days in college, he says, "I would sit on the stairs and read Shakespeare or Milton. I used to sit in literature classes although I was a Math student."
As for what's next on the agenda, he says , "A film with Anurag Kashyap, maybe. He said to me, 'Chandan, tune phaad diya yaar, we'll work together'." Ask him what he thinks about Shahid and Priyanka's chemistry off-screen, and he says, "I never saw Priyanka on the sets when Shahid was there… a lot of people thought Shahid and I had great chemistry though!"
