After the plaudits post Jab We Met, Shahid Kapoor is all set to strike back in a double role for Vishal Bharadwaj's Kaminey . Indiatimes Movies speaks to Shahid, who these days seems to be in the news more for his link ups than his films.
Kaminey is looking great!
Yeah I have been hearing a lot too. Kaminey is a commercial film but not the usual Vishal Bharadwaj kind of stuff. He narrated few scripts, but this one with twin brothers who has speech defects appealed to me. It was entertaining at the same time and something that I had never done before. The genre was pulp fiction and had high end glamour. It was one of my toughest performances and my first double role. The audience had seen me in soft romantic roles and this role opened new doors for me.
What was tough lisping or stammering?
Stammering was definitely tougher because it's also a psychological problem. In fact we met quite a few doctors and people who have this problem. Lisping is little easier than stammering onscreen. We didn't want to make caricature out of my character we wanted these characters to come across very real.
Do you justify this title in real life?
For me Kamina is Badmash and naughty. I think there must be a Kamina in me too because there's no one who has not thought or done bad or wrong. We all are human beings and we have goodness and bad qualities too
Vishal is known for his different style of filmmaking. What did you benefit working with him?
Well the best thing about Vishal is that he offers his actor varieties. I think I have grown as an actor working with him. He taught me how to act. As a star I am used to acting within a comfort level but here he keeps that aside and drenches you into the character you are portraying. He is a very multitalented director.
Vishal has done a lot of work with your father?
I know. Vishal and I had met before Omkara . We were supposed to work together unfortunately it didn't work out. He has worked with my father. I think he and dad have made some great films together. I am happy that he gave me probably the most difficult role of my career yet.
Saif got recognition of a serious actor for his role in Omkara. Do you think you will get different recognition with your role?
I think Omkara was different film. This is a different film. I like everyone's performance in Omkara including Saif. I hope people like my role in this film. I don't know if I'll get a different recognition but I am expecting that people will like my performance in Kaminey .
You have two films with Yash Raj Productions. Dil Bole Hadippa and their next venture opposite Anushka Sharma, which will be directed by Parmeet Sethi.
There has been a positive interaction with Yash Raj. In fact I am not from the film industry. I have never socialized much with people from the industry. It's just that when you meet people during your work and interact with them, you have certain bonding. I hope I do many more films with them in the future.
Finally you have three releases down the year?
Yes there is Dil Bole Hadippa with Rani, Yahoo with Genelia and Pathshala is also ready for release. I don't have big role in Pathshala . It's just a 30 minute role. Then of course, I will start working on my dad's film at the end of the year. All are important films and the pressure is there.
