It was a moment of pride for John Abraham. The supermodel and Bollywood icon has been given the of title of 'Global Hero of Habitat.". He is the face of the organization in India. Mrs. Rajashree Birla, co-chairperson, Habitat of Humanity advisory committee and a member of Habitat's Global Capital Campaign honored the Bollywood personality for his significant contribution to bring, safe, decent and affordable housing to the less fortunate families of India. John Abraham's association with Habitat of Humanity began with his involvement in the Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter work project at Lonavla in 2006. The actor since then has devoted time to help Habitat of Humanity to bring about awareness to help the poor build their own simple and decent home. Being a youth icon, John garnered the support of the youth to eliminate poverty through Habitat. A special movement was created called -Join John's Brigade in 2007- that saw millions of youth joining the campaign and volunteering their time to make a difference in providing safe and decent shelters for marginalized community in India. With this honor John joins the league of other global celebrities like Bon Jovi who is Habitat's international hero. Speaking at the event Mrs. Rajashree Birla said, "The youth are the future of the country and being the youth icon of India, John Abraham, has been the epitome of caring for the less fortunate citizens of India. John has very actively promoted the cause of decent affordable housing in a very committed manner. It gives me great pleasure on behalf of Habitat for Humanity, to bestow on John the title of Global Hero of Habitat."
