Half Year Box Office Report Sunday 5th July 2009 02.30 IST
Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network Its been a very bad first half to the year with New York coming in the last week of June making it look somewhat better. The strike meant that around 60 days went by without any worthwhile film being released in that period. The successes of the year so far are as follows. 1. NEW YORK - Emerged the biggest success of the first half but collections fell badly as biggie Kambhakkt Ishq opened to a huge response a week after the release of New York. It remains to be seen if it can settle down or collections will keep on falling. Expected All India Distributor Share 20 CRORE APPROX. Verdict HIT/SEMI HIT
2. RAAZ THE MYSTERY CONTINUES - The film opened very well and was helped with an extra holiday in Republic Day which made all the difference as the film crashed after first four days. The business in first four days was enough for the film to be a success as costs were relatively low but was not a patch on the earlier Vishesh Films Emraan Hashmi starrer Jannat. All India Distributor Share 12.25 CRORE. Verdict SEMI HIT 3. SLUMDOG CROREPATI (Dubbed) - The hindi version was not expected to do as well as the original English version Slumdog Millionaire but eventually did better than the English version. The film did very well in Maharashtra. All India Distributor Share 6.30 CRORE. Verdict SEMI HIT 4. DEV D - The critically acclaimed Dev D managed to do fairly well at multiplexes around the country which enabled the makers to earn some money from the film. The film did very well in the Delhi/NCR area and managed to run for 20 weeks in Delhi due to the strike. A rarity in the multiplex era. All India Distributor Share 6.50 CRORE. Verdict ABOVE AVERAGE 5. 99 - The only other success of 2009 which was helped as it had around three weeks of no competition and held steady for the three weeks with medium to low collections at multiplexes. All India Distributor Share 5.25 CRORE. Verdict AVERAGE |
