Shamita Shettys Room Attacked by Baboons

May 5, 2009 |18:11 | Celebrities | Gossips By : Team X

Shamita Shetty, currently in South Africa with her sister Shilpa for the IPL cricket tournament, has had her hotel room ransacked by a troop of baboons.

"It's been a great weekend,"said Shilpa, "Shamita loved every bit of it until she went to her room and discovered her room had been ransacked.

By the Baboons... apparently they knew where the mini bar was and we were warned when we checked in to keep all doors locked when we leave the room."

Shamita is looking forward to the release of her next film, the ghostly Kollywood thriller Naan Aval Adhu, which will star R Madhavan, fresh from his success in 13b and also Sada. Originally a remake of the Hindi movie Darling, the script has migrated away from its original premise.

It's been a long time since we saw Shamita in a decent Bollywood movie – when can we expect to see her again? "I wish I could sit here and predict my future and tell you when I am coming and in which film but frankly speaking I don't have anything right now in my hands - but I am waiting for a nice and exciting script!"

Shamita Shetty, who's in South Africa on a holiday at the Kruger National Park recently found her room trashed by a bunch of baboons. Shilpa's younger sister, who was staying at the Singita Lebombo Sweni Lodge, had apparently forgotten to lock her door.

Shilpa writes about her sister's misadventure on her blog "When we checked in, we were told to keep all doors locked when we leave our rooms as the baboons know where the Mini Bar is and we were warned. (Obviously, someone didn't listen)."

Shamita laughs, "I can't believe Shilpa has blogged about my tragedy! One night, when I came back to my room, I found it had been trashed by baboons. What Shilpa wrote about me not locking my door is not true. I had locked my door but baboons are big animals and they broke open the door!"

Shamita was horrified on seeing the state of her room but was relieved that her jewellery, shoes or accessories was left untouched, "They ate up all the foodstuff in my mini-fridge and took away all my medicines — like my vitamins, my hair and liver medicines etc. I couldn't believe it. They even ate up the smoked oysters in the mini-fridge and left it empty. My room was in a mess when I entered but I was lucky they didn't take my valuables. If they had taken my jewellery away I would have had a heart attack!"

Barring that scary experience Shamita says she had a beautiful experience at the Lodge. "In the morning, we'd see elephants and giraffes walking past our bedrooms. When we walked around, tigers and lions were just a few hundred yards away. Yes, I was horrified at the baboons trashing my room but it won't stop me from going on a safari again!"

"From the time I have come to South Africa, the one thing I have really been wanting to do is a safari. So Raj, me and a couple of close friends with family in tow, decided to do just that. After the last game, we really needed a break, so off we went. Landed in Singita yesterday, staying at Lebombo this place is perfection personified. Luxury in the wilderness, just what I wanted and what a combination!! Went on a game drive in the afternoon and we got really lucky as we saw a pack of lions, hippo and giraffes, baboons impala's, and the most regal African elephants.
