I wonder.. i can imagine a desified period-esque flick with stories inspired by Wuthering Heights( one of my favorite literary classics)..

or if the movie was made in the 50's or 60's then Guru Dutt could have made a great adaptation... he could play Heathcliff too and Waheeda Rehman as Catherine Earnshaw/Linton (double role??).. not too aquainted with other old school desi actors of the time...

70's or 80's version should defnitely have had Angry Young Man Bachchan as Heathcliff, Parveen Babi as Catherine Earnshaw, donno umm Waheeda Rehman as Nelly?? boooooring shahshi kapoor as Edgar Linton? well Muqaddar ka Sikander kinda had vaguely similar storyline, big B being an orphan and taken in and then shunned because of his status by Rakhi's family..but they never fell in love.. etc... that was a decent flick..

if its being made today then I don't want Vishal Bhardwaj remaking it, find his movies a tad too overrated (but yet better than majority of annoying desi directors)...

SLB would make a visually stunning movie but he has a tendency to go over the top.. if he doesn't get too over ambitious then he can make a decent adaptation i would say

Anurag Kashyap's version would be interesting..he could do a modern spin on it.. with sexed up Heathcliff snorting cocaine lol

these people i don't want anywhere near the adaptation:
K Jo, Khans, Kapoors, Chopras and their associates, I don't wanna see Heathcliff dancing in some exotic place showing off his 6/8 pack, no thank you.. dont want your cheesiness

I don't think they've ever attempted it. In fact, no one has done a film adaptation after '92 movie with Ralph Fiennes which is rather sad because there were rumors Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie were going to be doing a new adaptation.
I don't think there are a lot of directors today in Bollywood who have the calibre to portray Wuthering Heights in its entirety, although I'd love to see the more competent ones - like Deepa Mehta - try.

Yeah I want a remake as well but it has to be rly rly epic.. i haven't read the book in years but growing up i had a massive crush on Heathcliff.. teehee

Nooo not johnny depp and Angelina..i want relatively unknown actors in the remake.. gosh! Heathcliff has to look sinister, bad and supremely hot...

i can't stand 95% of desi actors so a desi remake would be tricky...

Deepa Mehta, well i aint exactly a huge fan of her movies.. but she could be okay.. as long as she doesn't choose John "Plank of Wood" Abraham or Lisa "Two Expressions" Ray for lead roles...

good post.. it's one of the first novels that i ever read..!
well, Vishal does have a tendency to stretch it bit too much.. SLB i agree sometimes goes over the top but he's good choice.. really don't want Anurag making it.. he has a tendency to ruin it for me.. i don't really care much for his work, sorry.. although, he has some good movies but hmm, no comments about the rest.. yeah, i don't want it glammed up for sure..
Mahesh Bhatt would be a great choice if he can give it the same treatment as his previous Zakhm, Daddy, Sir, Najaayaz, Naraaz, etc.... just loved his take on them.. and go easy on the songs, please..!!!

i personally wouldn't like Wuthering Heights to be adapted by Bollywood........i'm not too sure anyone would be able to do justice to this timeless classic.

I agree with ya, certain classic hollywood movies can never be made in bollywood, with all there dream songs and dance it will spoil the classic.
I don't think their was or is a better or SEXIER, TALENTED ACtor then RALPH FIENNEs, this guy can express and act just by his eyes.😳😳😳
No wonder Steven SPeilberg saw him in this film and signed him up for his Schindler's list, speilberg said Ralph had "an evil sexuality in this film".😉
And how evily sexy Ralph looked in Schindlers list, he is one off my all time fav actors ever. maid in manhatten, the english patient, The Reader, The white countess, he is beyond excellence, still can't believe he has not yet received his much DESERVING oscar.👏

Oh God please no!!! (sorry for freaking out, but Wuthering Heights is one of my all-time fav.) I don't think any Bollywood director of today has the potential to do a desi adaptation of this novel (no offence to anyone). If it's made into a Bollywood version, then I'm sure it would ruin it for me.

lol. Nah, WH was written way earlier. Wuthering Heights was written in the 1800s. First published in 1847 under Emily Bronte's pseudonym "Ellis Bell" and then later re-published, after Emily's death, in 1849 with editing from Charlotte Bronte.
