The recent release Luck By Chance is a clear cinematic example of the hypocrisy brought in by film industry fame. Farhan Akhtar plays a struggling actor Vikram in the film and finds love in another of his kinds Sona (Konkona Sen Sharma). The two truly love each other. But then luck favours only Vikram as he wins a lead role in one Bollywood film and goes on to become a popular name in the industry.
And with fame comes the moral corruption in his mind. His love for Sona fades away as he aims at higher goals in life. Sona becomes too substandard for Vikram until he realizes his mistake and goes back to her in the end only to be rejected by Sona.
While that was film, life seems quite opposite in real life.
Freida Pinto
To start with the latest entry to Bollywood, Freida Pinto is enjoying the limelight post the success of her debut film Slumdog Millionaire . But life wasn't same for Freida before Slumdog.
There are reports that the actress was engaged to a Bangalore based person though not much is known about his identity. Sources say that post the success of Slumdog , Freida cut off all past ties that could pose as a barrier between her and the dizzying heights of fame. Thereby she called off the engagement.
While Freida brushes off the rumours insiders insist that she was indeed engaged.
Viveik Oberoi
When Viveik Oberoi made his entry in Bollywood with Company, he won instant fame and recognition. At that time he was going around with girlfriend Gurpreet Brar and the two were even officially engaged with a ring ceremony.
But as Viveik became more and more successful, the name Gurpreet became distant from him. Their engagement was called off after which Viveik had his share of limelight with actress Aishwarya Rai. Unfortunately for him Aishwarya dumped Viveik perhaps because she was more successful and Viveik couldn't match up.
Sonal Chauhan who debuted with last year's surprise hit Jannat was going around with a guy named Sahil Zarru. Post Jannat they seemingly broke off their relationship. Perhaps in this case Sonal was better-off without Sahil since he was the man who reportedly supplied drugs to Rahul Mahajan.
Saif Ali Khan
It was surprising when Saif Ali Khan left her wife Amrita Singh for the Italian girl Rosa Catalano. But it was less surprising when he left Rosa for Kareena Kapoor. Saif Ali Khan was a big name post films like Omkara and Race . And when he could win Kareena Kapoor, it was but natural for him dump Rosa who was perhaps too low for his star status.
Much before Mallika Sherawat entered films; she was an air-hostess with Jet Airways and married a pilot Karan Singh Gill. The marriage lasted for over a year but finally ended in divorce. After that Mallika headed to Mumbai for an ambitious career in modeling and films. Gill remarried and has settled down with his second wife and kids.
However Mallika can be excused on this list on the grounds that she left her husband before she became a celebrity.
Sushmita Sen
Sushmita Sen's linkup with Randeep Hooda was more surprising than their breakup. Sushmita was a well-known name when she was going around with Randeep who was just a newcomer. Perhaps she saw immense potential in Randeep and expected him to become the next big thing in Bollywood. But when Randeep couldn't climb up the success ladder, Sushmita decided to call it quits.
Perhaps the same happened with Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja or maybe even Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor. You never know...
