Many a times, Hindi movies make you laugh and cry simultaneously, work as a vent to let out anger. make you "aw" at romantic scenes and "ew" at sleazy ones, and lastly, make you sing and dance to their musical tunes. In fact, the "singing and dancing" has become a trademark in Bollywood, and no Hindi movie is complete without it. The first Hindi movie which featured the song and dance sequence was Ardeshir Irani's Alam Ara in 1931 and of course, it was a blockbuster hit. BollySpice now takes you back in time over the past year as we count down the Top Ten Best Dances. So in pure Bwood style, get ready to "Boogie Woogie Dance-Dance" and "Nach All Night!"

10. Khwab Dekhe – Race

The song was actually a late addition to the Race soundtrack but managed to generate waves on the charts. Audiences were treated to a svelte Katrina Kaif and hunky Saif Ali Khan dancing under the hot sun and then later soaking in the rain, only to create some serious dhamaka. The duo created magic firstly, because of the unique choreography and secondly, watching the new pair dance was really a breath of fresh air! Dancing on a rock star stage with huge speakers in the background only helped to make the dance rock!

9. Jee Le – U Me Aur Hum

After a short hiatus and a few glimpses of her in a few songs in the form of special appearances, Kajol was back with a bang. If that wasn't enough, she was paired with her real life partner Ajay Devgan in their home production U Me Aur Hum. 'Jee Le' definitely took the cake when it came to the songs in the movie. The professional salsa dancers (and there were many!) along with the couple danced on the deck of a cruise liner, letting the audiences know that the couple sure can dance! The surprise package was the director-actor himself who obviously had taken some classes to make him swing and sway as well as he could! A hit couple dancing on a ship with some spectacular sights is the prefect formula for a successful song!

8. Aye Paapi – Kismet Konnection

It is not possible to not have a Shahid Kapur number on the charts, especially because he is one of Bollywood's best dancers. While the movie was a complete dud at the box office, 'Aye Paapi' was the best thing to come out of this movie. Jutting out some fancy moves, Kapur was in full form as usual. The song was shot in a music video form, making it groovy and making the audiences moovy!

7. Title Song – Bachna Ae Haseeno

He's known for being a good dancer but put him with the three hot babes Bipasha Basu, Deepika Padukone and Minisha Lamba, and all of a sudden Ranbir Kapoor seems to pick up a great tempo while dancing. Tapping his feet to one of his father's biggest hits, Kapoor Jr. knew he had quite a challenge. However, he does manage to keep up the reputation and created quite a stir with his fancy yet simple moves. Locking arms with all three girls, Kapoor was obviously in his element and additionally, exposing his chest too while he busted out some fancy steps, Kapoor Jr. made us swoon and go wow!

6. Desi Girl – Dostana

Catchy lyrics help the song about 50%, while the rest depends on the choreography. In the case of 'Desi Girl', it had some excellent visuals in the form of John Abraham, Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra. While the men stood gawking at the sexy Priyanka in a gold sari, moving to some more traditional moves, the women were in for a double treat when witnessing the trendily dressed John -Abhishek dance with Piggy Chops and each other. Dancing in a club and making the firangs dance to their tunes, what more could we want?

5a. Dance Pe Chance – Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

Shah Rukh knows how to get down and jiggy even though he claims he doesn't know how to dance. This time however, we see him learning how to dance from newcomer Anushka Sharma who made her acting and dancing debut in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. 'Dance Pe Chance' shows the enactment of a guru teaching her chela how to get it going on the dance floor. Keeping in tune with the simple lyrics, the dance was kept simple with some traditional kite pulling and bell ringing steps, choreographed by ace dance choreographer Shiamak Davar. By the end of the song, we all wanted to take a Chance on this Dance!

5b. Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte – Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi
Keeping with the Yashraj tradition, RNBDJ had its song filled with a variety of actresses all dancing to the tunes and tracing some of Bollywood's favorite lover boys with SRK as the lead hero in every segment. 'Phir Milenge' begins with a black and white story which, of course, is a tribute to Raj Kapoor and Nargis with Kajol and the trend continued down several years with the likes of Bipasha Basu, Preity Zinta, Lara Dutta and Rani Mukerji all adding to the song value. For King Khan fans, this is the ultimate party as he pairs up with the hottest girls to create magic!

4. Behka – Ghajini

Whether it's acting or dancing, Aamir Khan is literally an institution in himself. He acts as well as he dances and in Ghajini, he demonstrates that he does it all in great pomp and style. 'Behka' is another example of his great capabilities. Declaring his undying love for his new love, he dances at some beautiful locales and some fancy steps in some stylish clothing. Additionally, viewers were treated to a multitude of Aamir Khans, with the use of modern technology, all dancing in unison. Every year we are treated to an Aamir Khan movie, and watching him dance is dollops of whipped cream with a cherry on top!

3. Krazzy 4 – Hrithik Roshan - Krazzy 4

The dance maestro took it upon himself to do an item number and help increase interest in his daddy's comical movie. This one saw Hrithik dancing on blocks and using special effects as his dancing partner. Dressed stylishly, he prances around doing steps that remind you of Prabhudeva in his heyday and quite literally make you go "krazzy!" While the movie didn't have much to show for, Hrithik's dance was a good reason to head out and watch the flick!

2. Tha Kar Ke – Golmaal Returns

It cost the director over 3.5 million, 1000 dancers, 180 fighters and 10 cars before 'Tha Kar Ke' from Golmaal Returns was finally "okayed" and loved by the audiences. The song was shot over 12 days and includes action sequences by the stunt master himself, Ajay Devgan. Jumping off a bike and causing the earth to split are just some examples of the fuss that this gaana created. South Indian cinema being the key inspiration here, 'Tha Kar Ke' also had some jumpy movements with the camera and some unique dance steps which the whole cast obviously had a blast shooting for!

1. Paapu Can't Dance – Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

And the crown goes to… (drumroll)…'Paapu Can't Dance'! Full marks to this nutty song and to its choreographer for an even nuttier song concept. Although clearly everyone can dance in the song, we are left wondering….where is Paapu? While we may never really find him, the steps to the dance were lovable and simple. Everyone picked up the Paapu Dance, and when the song plays at every desi party, you can't help but sing and dance to this young hip number. Imran Khan and Genelia D'souza both danced to this chart topping number in great flair, so even if Paapu can't dance, these two certainly can!

Since we can't seem to help ourselves we again have to list a special mention for Slumdog Millionaire. In the film the song 'Jai Ho'is a full on Bolly number that is brilliant!

While we are at it and adding extra songs in we have to give two thumbs up to Amisha Patel's sexy 'Lazy Lamhe' from Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic! Garam!

So that is how the cookie crumbles folks! As we wind down the best of the best in 2008, we certainly hope we have bigger and better Bollywood naach-gaana in 2009. Until we meet again, Nach Baliye!
