Why is Aamir Khan promoting Asin so much ?

P.S. From what I remember about Ashutosh Gowariker, he did not want to promote Gayatri Joshi because he wanted to leave some mystery for the audience and did not let her do interviews before the movie. And my guess is he did the same for Gracy Singh too.

Ashutosh Gowarikar didn't want a big name for both those roles and in reality he didn't actually care for either. He knew that they wouldn't succeed in mainstream Bollywood or for that matter parallel cinema.

Ashutosh wanted Rani for Lagaan but Aamir Khan told him this startegy of taking a simpleton with zero star value and keep the focus of the film on script and of course himself. Ashutosh followed up that in Swades too. Of course Jodha Akbar was different and there he needed a star.

^LOL. I am still mad at him for deciding against Nandita Das for Lagaan because Ashutosh thought that her eyes were too intelligent for that of a village belle. So he picked Gracy Singh because she seemed more dumb, which fit the role I guess? I didn't know about him wanting Rani though. Actually, I am glad she wasn't picked. I am all in favor of new blood in films. It is so hard to overcome the nepotism in this particular business.

It is for 'Ghajini' obviously and why not promote somebody who seems to have good potential. It will help the film too....

SRK and Aamir come from two completely different schools and have their own individual craft and vision of cinema.....you can't draw comparisons between things and people that are not even remotely similar. Market competition is something that they cannot avoid, though....But looking at SRK with his luminous record and Aamir with his illustrious brand of cinema, I don't think they need to prove anything to anyone.The very idea is extremely immature , childish and opinionated.
